i have a lifter tick on the passenger side of the engine
i put crc valve kleen in wiht the oil change, and did not know if it would eliminate it, if that was the correct thing to do, and how long it takes to work
i guess im asking, how long should i leave my engine run (i cant drive it, no liscence)
and, is there any other recomended fix for a lifter tick?
thanks!

1st thing I would do is to remove the valve cover and make sure the rockers are properly torqued down. I've seen rocker nuts, and even screwed in studs, back off and create a lot of valve train looseness and noise. While your in there make sure there is no excessive wear on the rockers, the end of the valves, and the pushrods. If everything is torqued and there is no evidence of wear on the parts mentioned above, then suspect the lifters.
The only way to eliminate lifter noise is to replace the lifter. The lifter wears internally and cannot "pump up" like it could when new. A lifter that fails to properly pump up cannot maintain the valvetrain clearances, and this is the ticking that you hear. You can lessen the amount of noise by increasing the viscosity of the oil that you are using. A thicker oil will allow the lifter to pump up a little better.
I have never personally seen any oil additives fix a lifter noise issue.

As long as oil pressures and engine temperatures remain in the normal ranges you can run your engine (with the car not moving) practially indefinitely. Do not leave a car running on it's own. Do not walk away and come back 2 hours later. There might not be anything left to go back to if something fails.
