Ok i need some help... I have a 96 3800 t5 Camaro. I have CAI, and true dual exhaust with 4-way electric cutouts, and a blown head gasket... I'm looking to do some performance upgrades to the engine since it's already torn apart to repair the gasket issue, but have found mixed information... If I get all new heads, Cam, valves... like the stage 2+ SSM powerpac, will tuning be necessary. b/c I've also heard from different people that there isn't tuning software out there for the 96... or are there other things that someone could suggest that would be worth my money? I've done alot of research, but haven't really gotten anywhere but more confused... I can turn a wrench, but the computer stuff isn't my strong point. I've got around $3000... any suggestions...
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
    Custom interior...

my 1 q's is what do you mean true daul exhaust no f body that i know of is true dual exhaust? next is i have a 96 also and you can hptuner in you just need to get a 97 pcm and put it in your 96. what i would do is what you said get new heads i would port and polish intake cam it i would also go talk to a local engine machine shop about boring your bore bigger since your block is torn out all rdy i would start there and build it up from there gl man i wish i got 3 grand to put in my 96 if you spend it in your engine you should should be smoking fast

        Re: $3000

On my built motor in my V6 I spent 800.00 on the pistons ( coated forged .20 over diamond pistons), 240.00 on the L32 rods from GM, 800.00 on the porting of my intakes and heads from my machine shop, 150.00 for them to harden the crank, com valve springs, comp retainers, intense push rods, comp lifters, my comp cam all that for like 4-500.00 I forget, 150.00 for all the ARP bolts, 150.00 for all the bearings, and 400.00 for the machine shop to put the motor together.. so all together 3200.00 or so to build up my V6.. with this setup my V6 made 225rwhp, and 225rwtq with a little tunning from my Maft +.. If I had hptuners, raised the rev limiter to 65-6700 and really tuned the a/f and timing I would have seen 240ish rwhp and tq..

If I was you I would just do a head and cam swap and put nitrous or FI on the car.. I wasnt really happy with the 225rwhp but when I sprayed my 125 shot though it I was really happy with the 370rwhp it made with no tunning on the bottle.. You wont have to tune but if you want to make the best power and best gas miles then tuning is a must.. Untuned my V6 put down 200rwhp and 210ish rwtq before I started to lean it out and advance my timing.. You can only do so much with the maft +.. I leaned it out 5 percent on the base ( anything thats not Wide open throttle), 4 percent lean at w/o, advanced timing 2 degrees on the base, and advance my timing 4 degrees at w/o throttle.. My car gained 25rwhp and 15 rwtq from doing this.. Just after you do whatever you do to your car get it on a dyno and see what it makes and what the a/f is at!! that will tell you if you need tuning..

            the l36 3.8L v6 cranks can handle over 800hp or 9second 1/4 mile times.
I dont know why you got that job done on a N/A car with around 225rwhp?

Why am I going to dump all this money into a motor and not even touch the crank shaft?? I mean the crank had over a 100,000 on it so I thought I should touch up that part as well.. And besides I didnt build a NA motor I built a nitrous motor.. So go ahead and tell me that if you dump 2500.00 into a motor with over 100,000 miles on it that your not going to do anything to the crank at all??

I did the exhaust myself, with a 2.5" universal kit from flomaster, with a new panhard rod to allow clearance over the driver's side of the rear axle, did it more for fun than anything else, I am able to switch the exhaust from the rear to the sides at the flip of a switch. with flamethrowers out of both... did it more for show than anything else, this was before I cared how fast I could go.

nope should leave crank alone.... only thing you should do is poslish the area for the new bearings
