  • connecting rod bearing inserts

the haynes says not to let them drop out when removing the connecting rods from the crank.
Is this just so they wont get scratched or scratch anything else?

Do I need new bearing inserts if I accidently touched one with my acidic greasy grimy oily hands?

    Re: connecting rod bearing inserts

Well, that's probably for two reasons:

    1. They must stay in the correct order and on the correct connecting rod
    2. They cannot be scratched or have any dirty particles on them

Go to any auto place and try to order 'em, dude.

Those notches are supposed to go in a certain way and I think they only CAN go in one way.. There should be a notch in your block and another in your connecting rods.
