Just got a Intake Plenum off a '01 Grand Am Gt 3.4 what else?

  • Just got a Intake Plenum off a '01 Grand Am Gt 3.4 what else?

    Okay I was reading about the intake being the main problem and that would be my first serious step in building. I won a intake plenum off ebay off an '01 Grand Am 3.4, what else do I need to make her bolt on here. I know I also need heads and a lower intake manifold? What parts should I be digging for here, I was a little confused when I was reading other posts.

    you'll need the pistons. if not IIRC the compression is something like 17:1 which obviously isnt good.

    current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

      Good to know.. But what parts imparticular, I plan on putting a turbo in next summer probably or early spring. I read something about the series 3 heads, talking about Gm Performance Aluminum heads? And the lower intake off a 3100 as in older 3.1 v6? What pistons should I be looking at, I can't find aftermarket ones anywhere, so I'm shooting in the wind here.

            you will also need the lower manifold, a set of alumnium heads, fuel rail, throttle body, and a few other odds and ends. thats the big stuff. you cannot use the new manifold on the iron heads, they will not fit.

            and you will need pistons. stock 3400 replacements will work, but if your going boost like I eventually will, go aftermarket so you can lower the compression.

              Okay great to know, where would I look for after market pistons that I would want to use? What specs? Because that turbo is comming, and I don't want problems when it does

              Also one more thing.. Inejectors what size should I get, I know I am going to need larger than the factory 16s, and I don't care too much if I have to change them again after I turbo.

                any company that sells pistons can make you a custom set... for ~ the same price as off the shelf pistons taht they make.. you just have to supply the specs

                  That 3400 top end looks like it flows infinatly better than the 3.4L.

                    It does, thats why I'm waiting here for this guy to let me know if he has the rest of the parts. A guy on the boards here tested this setup with new injectors pistons, these parts shown, and an exhaust system, I think he said he was kicken around 230rwhp right after that, and was keeping up on his friends factory Z28 didn't say till what point though. But either way the test shows that that head and intake setups flow rates are = to Tiago's custom setup he had when he turbo'd.

                    The main reason for all of this is better flow, gets rid of that annoying 4500rpm drop out!

                      you have rullel confised with josh. josh used desktop dyno to get his HP numbers. it was like 230 hp. but it wasn't a real dyno. russel just dynoed 184 hp with the 3400 top end and an off the shelf cam. he has some problem to work out though and could probibly get 200hp if he can work everything out. lets not forget that 12secondv6 runs 13's NA with only 180 hp and a lot of weight reduction. I think russel wil hit 14 first time he takes his new setup to the track.
