  • Cam installed over the weekend

Hey guys I fianlly got my cam installed over the weekend. I had it installed by a GM certified Tech. He also made me a custom EGR blockoff plate. I hade the Comp GT1 cam, Comp pushrods, Comp retainers, Comp 90lb springs, Edlebrock torque arm all installed. I will be having the car tuend with HP tuners this week to finalize the install and ordering a TA rearend cover. Only problem with the install is that ZZP didnt include the uppper intake gasket for some reason. I have to get a hold of them and see what can be done there. I have to get one Today then the car should be on the road Tuesady evening when we finish puing her back together.

did the upper intake gasket comes as a set with something else or did you just order it seperately from them? Oreillys has upper intake gaskets, but some of the newer ones have this blue piece that doesnt even match our cars at all!
Nice ride! Glad you got a cam, I been thinking about the GT2 myself, since my cam is out of my engine right now.

Dang your car is cllllleeeeaaaannn!! very nice! I like what you've done so far!
I wanted to ask what your future plans were but I found it:

I just bought the GT2 cam along with all the necessary supporting valvetrain components. I can't wait to get it all installed. Congratulations.

BTW: I saw on your site you got the LS6 yellow springs, which are the same ones I bought: read about these springs in the tech section and read my post here and tell me what you think:

slow 6: Thanx for the comments on my car. I boutght the intake gaskets within an install kit taht ZZP sales. It lists it coming with "intake gasket set", but mine didnt have the upper intake gasket for some reason. I have to call htem to see what they cna do about it if anythign at all. I had to order one today from a GM dealership cuz I cant wait a week to get the gasket from ZZP.

Camarorulz: I read your post. I Have never heard that myself about the LS6 springs. I was going to get Comp 130 springs but I was told that would have been too strong for our valve trains and it coud damage the engine. Some people have used the 105 springs which I probably should have gotten to begin with. However, the tech at ZZP reccommended using the 90lb LS6 springs so I went with them. I had a GM certified tech install my parts and he said the LS6 springs should be just fine.

Firehawk: why did the ZZP tech recommend using the LS6 springs over the comp 105s? just curious..

They didnt really say but Id say due to the pressure they use.

I just put the gt2 cam in my car a couple of weeks ago and I was also shorted an upper intake gasket in the install kit from zzp. I just went to advanced and bought one because I didnt have time to wait on zzp.

Re: Cam installed over the weekend

I called ZZP yesterday and they said that the GT install kit as they call it dont come with a upper intake gasket. So anyone who orders a kit form them will of course have to buy one.

Well guys my install went really well. Nothing was wrong with the engine at all except for some scratches on the front cover of the oil pump. So I have to get a new oilpump setup, but other than that it went clean. I get the car back this evening.

Re: Cam installed over the weekend

Well guys I got the car back on Tuesday. Went to pick it up and he fired it up and it sounded pretty awesome. He said the inside oft he engine looked great, no sludge or buildup, nothign going bad or broke. Only thing that went wrong minorly with the install is hat an o-ring on the lower elbow of the water pump broke off and it was leaking some coolant. Got that fixed today. I have to send back my TB to ZZP cuz they sent me the wrong one and my torque arm will go on next Sunday. I also should be going to tune the car on Friday. Ill make a vid and post it for you guys.

They are orange or black rings on the elbows of the water pump. They broke off . You woulnd see the rings unless u pulled the tubing out or took off the pump.

Ok guys I got the car tuned todya with HP Tuners. The car runs like a scolded dog for a 6pack. It will now chirp my 17's when it hits 2nd gear. Everything on the ECM is running at 100 percent and is calibrated to a T. Only minor problem that went wrong is when he shut off the emissions equipment my A/F gauge isnt workng as it once was. Im not sure if this is due to the stuff being turned of or what. The wire is hooked into the ECM module itself.
