  • piston ring cleaning

the smallest "bit" on my piston ring cleaner tool wont fit into any ring besides the oil ring (the lowest ring).
the oil ring is the biggest ring.
I guess I will just use one of the broken old rings to clean it.
Then use acetone and blow dry with compressed air.

when re-installing a cam does it have to line up or anything? I know the cam sproket (drive gear) has to line up with the balance shaft sproket. but I'm not going to be using my balance shaft.

The square end of an old ring should work ok. That's how they used to do it in the "old days"... :)

The pistons can be bead blasted, but I don't know if that will get down in the ring grooves well enough.

Can't answer the alignment question on the gears. I know the cam has to be correctly phased to the crank. If the balance shaft is the only way to do it though, I don't know what plan B is when you don't have a balance shaft...

The index mark on the crank sprocket should be at the 12:00 oclock positon (straight up) and the sprocket on the cam should be placed at the 6:00 (straight down) oclock position. They should be in alignment with each other.
