ok so i got my newer 3.8 in my 96 to replace the blown motor. now the car is cranking over but not starting. i'm being told that the security light is on. the motor has 23,000 on it and came out of another 96. whats up and what should i do?
the good. the motor is in
the bad. im here typing instead of driving
the not so attractive. me (and i'm not to happy which makes it worse)
Do you have your original pcm? Or did you swap in the new one. The pcm detects the VATS resistor in your key and it might not work if it's not the pcm matched to your key.
i'd stay it stays on. i don't know the local body shop is doing it for me as a favor (his brother in law is certified) i haven't actually been around the car. no we just switched the motor itself. the only thing takin off the old motor was the accessories but otherwise it was like putting in a crate motor. didn't switch anything with the computer.
ok i now have a little better description
1 when you turn the key all the lights come on like always
2 all the lights go off except the "security" "service engine soon" and "check gauges" light
3 when i turn the key over to start the only light that stays on is the "check gauges light"
4 the car almost starts but acts like its not getting spark
5 as soon you turn the key back off ignition the "security light" comes back on
help me out guys? im getting pissed about my car and went out on the bike to cool down and ended up with a wreckless driving charge that i have to take to court Wednesday.
this happened to me, i didnt have an engine swap but EVEYTHING YOU SAID HAPPENED TO ME EXACTLY. check your fuses.......which was my problem.....then your computer.
K&N air filter, Whisper air lid, magnaflow LT1 cat back, and magnaflow high flow cat, pacesetter headers, silverstars

more to come soon
but for now im out of money
thank for the help guys. thanks Greg for the good luck. Greg i was going to Johnson City and out of no where it just started rattling. its not completely blown, the old motor just needs rod bearings. as for the old pcm, it is the pcm that was on the old motor.i just put my accessories on my new motor and dropped it in. i will go there today and see if i can make any head way.
UPDATE: the motor is running now. the problem was bad injectors from gummed up gas in the new motor. we put the injectors from my old motor and it runs. thanks for the help.
the old motor is for sale. i would rather sale it as a whole. we put a new motor in because the rod bearings are gone in the old motor and i started a new job where i have to commute daily. the old motor is missing the accessories but the rest is there. NO COMPUTER. if anyone wants the motor as a whole let me know. later i will put it up in the for sale section. if i don't get interest in the old motor i will look at selling parts of it.
Hello every one, ozzy here ive been looking at this page for weeks now finally joined. So my question is why is it that every turbo build forum just ends...
