Re: Replacing internals for performance and rebuild
i know this is a little old, so please forgive this small bump... but coming from the grand prix community, we have seen more engines fail that were "built" than stock. You can also get 4-5 stock short blocks for the price of a fully built short block. Sure you may be able to free up some HP from the parasidic loss of the rotating assembly, but for the cost of pistons and rods, you can put that money into something else that will give you much more power...
pistons: 900
rods: 270
bearings: 110
rod bolts: 100
main studs: 50
Gaskets: ~100?
Total: 1530
Labor: $$$$
So even if you do all this yourself, its still 1.5k. These blocks have been proven to high 10s on both a turbo and m90 setup. ZZP does not run these blocks in their 9 second cars, but they can hold almost as much power. Infact, no one has blown a stock engine (to our knowledge) from sheer horsepower. Its always been some KR related issue.
For the cost of a built engine, you can go much faster investing it smartly in your car.
