    2) You are new to cars, but you don't want to take the time to learn before you buy, and therefore will not want to take the time to install and maintain the car as it should be.

A cammed car can last as long as a stock car, there are no more "debris" or anything weird like that. The problem is, if you take your car apart, put it back together with non OEM parts, you will have some issues (tuning, leaks, whatever). Its unavoidable.
Ask anyone who actually has a cam, they require more maintenence that simply installing one.

It is pretty much the policy of the Advanced Tech forum to recommend learning before installing. Matt and I both agree and support this view. We are here to help people learn, but not chose for them. It doesn't work well.
this must only apply to the 3.8l engines then, because i have installed cams in other cars with no problems

Most don't have problems with the cams per say.
I had problems with the timing chain tensioner, which doesn't like high load valve springs, only to discover that ls1 valve springs (that a LOT of us used) will not work with the v6 unless you buy ls1 retainers as well (nobody knew).
There is much much much more to go wrong on a computer controlled car (especially with a crappy timing chain setup and also a balance shaft) than the carbed small block of the past.

So I bought 2 new timing chains and dampers, new lifters, new pushrods, 2 sets of rocker bolts and a complete gasket set IN ADDITION to the original purchase of all of those items trying to figure the noises out.
Turns out it was a set of retainers I was able to get for free.

Just one of the MANY stories of why you shouldn't install a cam on this engine unless you like working on it.

Nope. A double roller from ZZP fits, but you have to disable the balancer shaft, and its kind of hard to get it setup.
