What is the stock Crank made of?
Is the Crank easily bendable if a piston gets hydrolocked and the connecting rod bends.
The piston looks 100% perfect, but the rod is bent and twisted.
    thanks

    thanks

if your crank was bent you would DEF. know it, your engine would be shaking.
i dont see how only one piston can get hydrolocked, when an engine gets hydrolocked, it is done, toast, its not going to keep on running... even if it does, your going to have more than a bent connecting rod

what else is gonna be screwed besides a bent connecting rod, if it was hydrolocked?
The Head gasket blew, thats why it got coolant only in 1 cylinder, and only bent 1 connecting rod.

but lets stay on topic: "What is crank made of" ???? steal??

do you have the crank with you? Test it with a magnet, but im betting it is steel.

It will definitely be made of steel. The actual metalurgical designator I do not know at this time.

There are two methods of manufacture. Drop forged or nodular cast.

Forged is the strongest, most time consuming and costly to produce.

Yes you can bend a crank. A machine shop can do a run-out check on it to determine if it is bent. Never did one myself. But have talked to machinists that have straightened bent forged cranks. Not sure if cast can be straighted.

I believe that our cranks (3800 series II) are cast cranks.

but is it likely to be bent after it has had a cylinder hydrolock? thanks

                Re: stock Crank Material

Hydrolock can bend a crank. So can a host of other internal/external failures or events that cause sudden stopage or place high short duration stress on the crank.

It is actually quite likely that you only bent a conrod.
The connecting rods in this engine are a little weak. Since the conrod bent, it is likely that it took the brunt of the force and spared the rest of the motor. I would still have the crank check. Often when a rod bents, the bearings go out and score the crank. Have the cylinder walls checked as well.

I hydrolocked once, pulled the spark plugs out, cranked it, put them back in, car ran fine ever since, no bent or broken anything.

the bearings look fine to me, but what do I know.
It kinda looks like mild radius ride and overlay wiped out

How do you know its not bent if you didnt open it up? lol
                    thats some good luck though

You would know it was bent because it would not run right at all. I am guessing that your crank would be ok, but check it out. It is cast steel by the way.

if it is bent just think of it as a reason to put a stroker kit in.
