  • 3.8 swap

I'm going to be swaping a 3.8 out of a '99 coupe into 95 Convertible, both are Camaros. The 99 is a totaled car with a complete drivetrain and wireing harness. What all parts do I need to swap from the 99, and how much of its harness would I need to use.

You might want to take the driveshaft from the 99 if it is a one piece and your 95 has the 2-piece driveshaft. The one piece is lighter.

When I swap the k-member do I have to swap any other suspension or steering componets?

grab teh 99 shocks/struts while you're at it. Interior peaices if needed too. IS your 95 a 3.4 or 3800? auto? manual?? Center console might need to be swapped to. If a 3800, then just unhook the 95 harness, swap over the 95 upper intake and drop the 99 in. Newer tranny is always better. Keep the 99 pcm maybe (check tech database on pin-outs for programming) Compare sterring ratios to see which is quicker.

The 95 is a 3.4 A4. The 99 shocks and struts look to be ok. I haven't checked but I think someone has removed the tierods or the rack and pinoin.

The 95 convertible has drums in the back can I swap in the 99 rear end, it has discs?
I know the brake lines are different, can anyone tell me if the ABS sensors would be the same?

Thanks for all the help so far:wavey:

not a clue onthe sensors, maybe compare p/n's.

since the 95 is a 3.4, remove all engine/dash harness & swap w/the 99. You will also need to snag the pedal assembly for the throttle by wire bit. master cylinder is diff for rdrum/rear iirc, but then jsut compare p/n's along w/the sensors.

Is the gearing the same for both rears?

Don't know what the gearing is, I probably won't even bother with it to save time, money, it would be one less headache.
