Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
I had it sent to the dealer, didn't want to take any chances. Should be getting a report about it today.

he is running synthetic, it lasts over 3k, hell, even dino oils last considerably longer than 3k, you can run an oil test at 3k, and i would pretty much be willing to bet that oil had quite a ways to go. most of the newer cars come with oil life monitors that dont make you change your oil till like 5 or 6k on dino
Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
yeah, i got that oil change light too. i've NEVER used it tho. 3-4k and its done. its well worth my peace of mind. once i put in amsoil and after like 10k i took it out. stuff was FILTHY! i was supposed to get 20k out of it. never again.

the oil still gets dirty.. the longer you keep it in your engine, the dirtier it is going to get, and the dirtier your engine is going to get
Re: Got a problem: UPDATE: Getting engine rebuilt.
Yes, engine is being rebuilt now. Coupla spun rod bearings. I CANNOT prove one way or another that the shop did anything wrong, but I still suspect foul play.
There were metal shavings in the oil (which was fresh oil) , it's getting a new crank: if the shop did do anything wrong with the cam install, they didn't change the oil afterwards, then when it spun a bearing they changed the oil to cover it up. This is just speculation obviously, the engine could simply have had this problem before..
My dealership techs thought that the problem was NOT related to the cam install, but I know that this problem can be caused by not changing the oil after the install, I've heard it more than once.
Anyone know of anything else that a shop can do to screw up a cam installation and cause this kind of damage?
However, I doubt that, considering the only noise I heard from the engine beforehand was the ticking lifter(s) I never heard any knock from it. A 67k engine that's had synthetic oil, changed at 5-6k pretty regularly MAY get a little dirty on the inside, but I can't see that causing a spun bearing. As BLLDOGG said earlier, if running over oil change intervals causes engines to fail, then most of the engines on the road would need to be rebuilt.
Regardless, it's getting a rebuild, and my cam will stay in. Considering they didn't dyno-tune it before (simply tuned it to run) it should be interesting to see how it runs when it's back up.
BLLDOGG: I have a specific question for you: Do you know someone other than Extreme around here that can tune my car for a decent price? Do you have HPtuners?

Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
So the shop performed some work inconsequential to main bearing life, noticed a knock, told you to get the engine rebuilt, they were found right as noted by a third party, and you are still trying to point the finger?
Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
If you read my previous post, I said that I couldn't prove anything, and that I really couldn't say either way whether or not they caused the problem, but I was still a little suspicious. That doesn't constitute "pointing the finger."
Pointing the finger would be saying something along the lines of "I know they messed my engine up" and I didn't say that. I clearly stated I don't know why the bearing spun, and that the problem could've been there before.
Now that I've talked my mechanic a little bit I'm starting to doubt the other shop did anything wrong (although the possibility remains, WHO KNOWS?.) In my defense it seemed VERY suspicious until I found out a lot more, and that's why I took it to the other shop.

Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
Unfortunately, I don't know of anywhere and I don't have HP Tuners. Wish I do, but don't.
I have heard a few knocks in my day and its not something that can be covered up by a ticking drive train. This doesn't mean that it was about to start or what but I'm a little suspicious. now, could they have done something to cause this, don't know. I personally don't trust this local shop cause of "stories" from people who are not happy with their work. from what Camarorulz said, their behavior seems suspicious but they might have just wanted it off their hands. I know what it is like to have a car to work on that has problem you didn't cause but you know you could be blamed. car like this is commonly described as getting married to it. sorry to hear your bad luck buddy. Its hard to trust anyone to do work for you even if it is a dealership.
Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
I hear you guys, and I tend to agree with your logic. However, I don't like to place blame when I can't prove it. Since I'm an aspiring attorney I like take a standard of "beyond reasonable doubt" before placing absolute blame.
BLLDOGG: maybe you could shoot me an email describing the "stories" you've heard about them, if you don't want to do it here. I'm very interested, especially considering I may have to go back to them to get it tuned because I can't bust out $500 for hptuners.

Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
The only one i can remember details about is my old shop foreman told me that him and his buddy went to extreme to have an LS6 intake manifold put on his buddies Camaro. he explained it to me that there isn't really any obvious differences between that and the stocker but there was something that can be seen on the outside that is different. after picking up the Camaro from extreme, they checked it out and my old foreman noticed it was still the factory intake and not the LS6 intake. they confronted extreme about it but i cant remember what they said. I think they just tried to play it off saying that they were wrong and they did put it on. Like i said, All stories. I have never taken my car there and so, I have no true stories i can prove myself. I personally would still invest in HP Tuners. Now if you really cant shell it out, I would not feel too worried about trusting them to actually tune it. I would personally try to be there when they do it if I could.
Re: Got a problem: I think I'm being scammed PLEASE HELP
the best evidence is video footage but you already knew that since you are an aspiring attorney. I agree, you cant do anything till you have real proof. :(

I guess that's the question - if it happened at Extreme, was it just "stuff happens" or was it caused by their negligence?
