a section of the soft bearing face has been wiped off
sorry its a horrible wal-mart camera
but you can tell that there is no copper color, probably never will be even
    if I file into it.
under the top most layer(dark grey) it is only bluish-silver.

from the looks of the pic replace the bearing . it's done. I have to agree with these guys . Replace the bearings . you dont want one of them turning on you and having to turn the crank and connecting rod .

Wow, you seriously want to reuse that thing?
The only thing that bearing is good for now is weighing down your trash can.

For reference, "overlay wiped out" in practice means "F*cked Up Bearing!"

I am with AZ on this one. Do it right the first time you are in there and you won't have to do it a second time.

I wish someone could tell me exactly what the name of that bearing failure is.
It ALMOST looks like "bent or twisted connecting rod"
For sure, I know it was "oil starvation" probably from hydrolocking and that put so much pressure on the bearing it starved that section of the bearing of oil.
            Probably just normal wear.
I got Clevite 77 Trimetals and other parts on the way.
Anyone know of any bearings better than Clevite 77 Trimetals?
They are rated at over 300k miles.

Hydrolocking usually results in a bent rod. That could be it.
Also the bearing pressure increases dramatically when the motor gets hydrolocked.
Could be either of the two.
Check the rods out while they are out.

Weren't you the one asking about sealant on head gaskets? Was it that set of headgaskets that caused the hydrolocking?

                Re: bearing damage ?s

i think the bent rod happened when i first busted the head gasket.. after i replaced it and put sealant on it it seemed to run fine... then I took it all back apart, replaced the gasket with no sealant and it wouldnt run because of compression from 80-90psi. (low compression was due to bad rings and 1 bent rod)
