sooner or later i'm getting this damn thing rebuilt. i just need to figure out what parts i'll need given the setup i'm lookin at:
Heads and cam (dunno what exactly yet... but maybe abbott heads and comp cam)
    Rocker arms and pushrods
Forged crank, rods and pistons (maybe i'll get that COME racing forged stroker kit)
definately a turbo and all the stuff for it. (lets say 15 psi for now just to make sure the thing will take whatever i give it)
    new rings
    new crank and cam bearings
    totally cleaned out and degreased
    a tune (duh)
    new head studs
    oil pump (might as well...)
head, rear main, oil pan, water pump, throttle body and intake gaskets
    new PCV valve, sparks, wires...
    timing chain (chain tensioner too?)

is there anythign i'm leaving out here that i need to take into consideration so i can get my budget lined up for this? are there any sensors i should change out as long as the motor will be nice and open? really, anything at all.. gasgets, bolts, bearings... etc.
    thanks!

    Re: engine rebuild

(cough, cough) transmission, rear end, suspension.

also main studs, head gasket, upper and lower intake gasket, throttle body gasket, valve cover gasket, lifters, pushrods, rocker arm bolts ( you cant go past 1.7's on the rockers with the cam in there as well), front cover gasket, header gasket, you will need a double roller timing chain and there will be no tensioner after you install it, cam bolt, crank bolt, torque wrench, factor in breaking your coolant elbows ( i did, they are almost impossibl not to break, very cheap tho), fuel filter, fuel pump, bigger injectors ( 36's and up), Blow off valve, wastegate, turbo kit, oil feed and return lines,

thats not even a complete list

I haven't even touched my bottom end, but have done all the other upgrades including suspension, depending on how much you spend on a turbo these things are easily going to cost you upwards of $12,000.00 (heads, cam, turbo kit, stroker kit) thats roughly $7K right there. and we arent even on the tranny, suspension, or rear end with that.

        Re: engine rebuild

i know its gonna cost a fortune. i just wanna get it rebuilt in the next year cuz its got over 100k on it and one day i wanna put a turbo on it. i'm just trying to make sure that when i get the turbo i can just plug it in (i.e. not have to worry about internals) while still getting some big hp while i'm N/A.
whats a double roller timing chain?
what has to be done w/ the trans? i figure i can just grab a rear end from a junked z28 or sumthing. as far as suspension... what? lca's, torque arm, shocks.... i already got eibachs... panhard bar too?
also, i hear people talk about how they're overbored by .020... should i look into that? what does it do?

          Re: engine rebuild

the rear end out of a Z28 isnt going to help it is the same as ours, I hopr you are auto and have posi, otherwise forget about it.

double roller timing chain is just like it sounds, it is two chains instead of one for added strength, when you install it you have to remove the tensioner, and you can remove the balancer, if you want.

The trans is not going to be able to support the type of HP you are looking at, easily over 400, you are either going to have to have it rebuilt, or by a brand new built tranny.

you need to put that power to the ground, your wheels will be hopping practically off the car without upgrades in suspension Lower control arms, torque arm, and shocks are KEY! the Eibachs will also help. Panhard bar isnt completely necessary, but cheap so why not.

Boring your motor out will expand you cylinder volume, (they re-tap each cylinder at a larger size), I wish I knew more about, I am sure someone can chime in with the info.

            Re: engine rebuild

if you bore it out, you have to get larger pistons to fill the space. I think you can only go .30 over. It would be a good time to put forged pistons in.
