I got my L36 3800 Series 2 engine torn apart.
How do you get the shaft out?
Guess I better go read my Haynes...

      Re: balance shaft removal

i've decided to remove it and weld it shut from the outside
what do you mean "thread it"?
is there an extra hole I'm supposed to plug up?

                      Re: balance shaft removal

I am not sure if anyone mentioned this, but you need to be concerned with plugging the oil holes that feed the balancer shaft. Then you can worry about the hole in the block.

y do you wanna take it out? it takes up about as much hp as that waterpump does (i.e. next to none). and it makes the engine run that much smoother.

                            Re: balance shaft removal

                            1) It takes up a very slight bit of oil pressure.
                            2) Weighs like 10 lbs (of front end weight)
                            3) If I just take off the drive gear(which i did) I will gain a whole whopping .1 in the 1/4

It doesnt affect the rotating assembly balance of the engine, the only effect you Might be able to tell is any rpms below 1800rpms.
If you dont have a cam(which i dont) you wont be able to notice a difference.
