first things first, whats easier, swapping the engine throught the hood, or dropping it out the bottom?? i've heard mixed opinions, and need to know.. second, is there any website or article that any of you guys know that would have like a step by step on removing and reinstalling an engine?? Anybody have any tips on making this easier on myself?? ive never swapped an engine, and im probably going to attempt this one myself, because the previous owner threw a rod through the block..

Re: engine swap questions
i got a tip, get a buddy. Also get a service manual like haynes or chiltons
I took my 3.8L out the top(all by myself). I dont think it was that hard.
I've done ALL work myself.
I hear that dropping the k-member, everything else and taking it out the bottom is the easiest, but that is also unsafe because the car could fall on you.2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! Re: engine swap questions
My dad and I removed the engine and transmission from my 97 camaro rs, we took them out the bottom though. It wasn't exactly easy for us, however I do believe it would be an easier fit than it would be out the top of the car. It's definately a job you want somebody to help you with, I really don't know how it would be possible to do it with no help. The best advice I can give you is to just take your time and double check everything. It took the two of us 3 very long and difficult days to do everything, but I'm sure it's possible to do it in less (it was a very new experience to the both of us... so go figure.) Best of luck to you, post with any questions and I'll try to help if I can.

Front-end as in the front bumper cover and absorber. Made it easier to get in and manuever the engine out w/ the hoist. Not a necessary step, I was planning on removing it later anyway. This being the second time I've removed a camaro engine, it was much easier without the front end. Would have made the first time a helluva lot easier IMO. but I'm no expert ;)Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
