Basically we need more info.
I think he knows its not the starter/flywheel/electrical because he is tearing into it. I am going to assume that it cranks and doesn't run. Apparently it ran for a little bit, then died while he was diagnosing it. I mean it could be a fuel pump for that matter, but I am guessing from the sound of what he says, its a mechanical problem, but like I said, need more info.

basically its this. nothing wrong electrically. im stressing this big there is a problem inside the engine so no more ideas on starters or something like that. the reason i know this is because of the noise for one and also i only ran a 15.8 at the track with good temperatures and all my mods. i ran faster stock and i had a much better launch. so something was wrong and as soon as i pulled into the pits i heard the noise. im heading out now to spin the crank and watch the valves to make sure they're opening. im also going to drop the oil pan to see if the rod bearings are ok. i found a motor out of the same 2001 firebird that my transmission came out of. its a complete motor with 28,000 miles on it for $650. im gonna jump on that and have a spare engine. ill update you all as to what i find

you should check compression before you open it up and its too late

fine let me change that to intake, high flow cat, flowmasters, spare tire removed, 17 x 9.5" rims with good tires, the clutch, energy suspension trans mount and torque arm bushing and a fresh tune-up. lets be serious i wasnt expected 13's but with what i had done, good weather, and a good launch i should have had lower 15's. i ran a 15.7 stock. i decided to not dig into it too much further. valvetrain checked out alright so its something in the bottom end i believe. im just gonna go ahead and buy the other engine and drop it in mine. when i take mine out ill take it apart completely and find out what exactly went wrong and possibly start building it up for boost next summer when i slap on a procharger.

got a new motor out of a 99 camaro with only 2000 documented miles on it for $800. waiting for some free time down at the shop to put it in. i came to the conclusion that this is my daily driver and its not reliable if i beat on it and take it down the track. so pretty much im done modding my car and im going to build a drag car out of a third gen camaro since they are dirt cheap around here. ill update more once i have the time to put the motor in

rod bearings. two of them. and the one journal doesnt look like its in good condition. the crank would need to be turned if i put new rod bearings in

yeah you definitely hit that one right on the money. i know getting it turned isnt that bad. and the rebuilding the motor thing isnt a huge deal to me. im attending UTI right now and have a 4.0 the first class they teach you how to completely tear down and rebuild an engine as well as take the appropriate specs to find out what needs to be replaced or fixed. i do plan to rebuild it once it comes out.

the reason why i chose to just put another motor in was to make it simple and faster for one. i mean think about it i replace the rod bearings and get the crank turned put it all together only to find out i have a bad wrist pin or a bent pushrod on top of it. i just spent all that time to take it apart, fix it, put it back together, and now i have to take it all apart again. if im gonna fix something im gonna do it right and complete the first time. plus i found an engine with 2000 miles on it for $800. i couldnt pass it up

when i pull the old one out i plan on tearing it apart completely, doing a full rebuild and then either keep it as a spare or sell it to my friend that has a v6 and is more likely to blow his motor then i will again. like i said im done beating on the camaro, im just gonna fix it and drive it, maybe mod it a little more but only bolt ons, and build a drag car for the track that was built for beating on. makes the most sense. i have too nice of a car to keep breaking it

but the REAL questions is... what caused the rod bearing to fail?
People say that main bearings take the most punishment, but I believe its the rod bearings that take it the worst.

It is usually an oiling problem more than a "beating" problem, especially on a non forced induction car.
Low oil, low oil pressure, dirty oil, debris, etc.

well ill try to find the root of the problem when i tear it all apart. it might be low oil that caused it. i was about a quart low, was getting some valve tap, added more oil and then did an oli change and it took away all the noise. but i only drove on it like that for less than a week. could that have done it? i dont think thats enough exposure to it for that to cause it plus oil pressure was normal
