Hey Jared, I'm with you on this one ... don't let everyone flame you about this, I think it'll be cool. A little old school never hurt anyone. Plus, the parts are a whole lot cheaper, so you can get some REAL HP for a lot less. Good luck bro.
Yes stock carbed motors suck monkey a** but when u build em right that are out of control...It is alot cheaper to build a carbed 350 than an LS1..... there is less tuning involved and its is actaully easier to tune a carb than the entire computer.The cost for my carbed 350 plus all the turbo stuff is about the same as buying a stock LS1 motor... so yeah id say go with it.

A properly set up carb will perform just about as efficient as electonic fuel injection. That old quadrajet on my 72' 400 Formula has great throttle response (probably because of all the booster venturis in the damn thing) right from idle and has more than enough CFM for full throttle, and it still gets 26 MPG on the highway. Not bad for an old heavy F body that doesn't have 4 gears (THM 400-3 speed) and a lock up torque converter.
In fact I prefer driving with the carbed engine better than the FI engine. For one reason, when I give the throttle a quick jab from idle the engine will return to idle right away. With the FI engine the damn IAC motor opens and the engine takes what seems forever to return to idle.
One of the biggest advantages that I see for the FI engine is that it will remain in tune through a wider range of conditions and for so much longer than a carbed engine. Those little flimsey delicate parts in a carburator wear out or get F'd up easily, so you end up playing with the carb alot more to keep it in perfect tune.

who tunes a carb with a wideband? who advances timing without knock sensors?
