Sorry ... I didn't know you had the motor still in the car. I was assuming that you were doing a rebuild on a stand.

I am, I rebuilt it, its on a stand.
And yes, the lifters, pushrods, rockers are moving.. I was just freaking out (cause they were barely moving).

Another thing I dont have installed is the oil pan.

Oil pan doesn't make a bit of difference, BUT, the valves should be moving more than barely ... did you adjust the valve lash properly??

            Re: no compression?

On 2002s you dont have to adjust valve lash right? arent the rockers auto-adjusting?
I guess I'm completely wrong, but I've never done it before.. lol
what time is it for you?

10:00am here in Italy ... I'm not sure if there's a difference between the 2000's and others, but I don't have a manual here at work ... :) Sorry.

Its awesome how Haynes doesnt list the rear main cover bolt torque specs! DAMMIT

                  Re: no compression?

You should be getting something even with the rings not seated up completely. If everything is moving as it should be, I don't know what to tell you, without looking at it.

There is no lash on the rockers because you have hydraulic lifters to take up slack.

did you remember to stagger the ring gaps on each piston

                      stagger?
the ring gaps are correct, the side clearance is correct, pistons are clean

Upper ring and lower ring on opposite sides of the piston, not lined up.

                          Re: no compression?

the rings had so much side clearance that they were loose and freely able to move on their own. Plus the ring compressor moves the rings too
I'm sure I put them in right

                            Re: no compression?

Is the engine easy or hard to turn over?
Does it get harder to turn over before you hear the whoosing air?

                              yes it does
It sounds like the air is going through the rings into the crankcase

Check to see if its coming out the exhaust ports or not.
