        Re: no compression?

can you really not get compression if you turn it by hand? thats retarded

          Re: no compression?

          Let me get this straight...
You have 0 compression on the compression tester in all cylinders?
If thats the case, you have a valve open or a giant hole in your pistons.
Double check the cam timing. The dots line up?
You should be getting pretty good compression when turning by hand, assuming you mean with a socket on the crank bolt and a breaker bar and not your bare hand.

            Re: no compression?

I'm getting a MAX of 28psi on all cylinders turning the crank with a 3' breaker bar. Someone told me you have to spin it at 250rpm-350rpm to get a real compression reading.

              Re: no compression?

I haven't tried it on this engine, but on the SBC you got quite a bit more than that with a breaker bar.

                Re: no compression?

Finish putting the motor together, quit worrying about how much compression its showing by hand, put it in the car and run the engine. The rings don't automatically seat perfectly right off the bat, especially the way you honed the cylinders. It needs to be broken in. If there is compression leaking out of the valves when they're closed, you need a valve job.

                  Re: no compression?

remember your lifters need to be "pumped" up with oil pressure.
to get a correct reading. new motor, no pan? no oil = no pressure.
lance hit it right on. finish it up.

other option is that our pr's are toooo long and not letting the valves seat, bleeding off.

i've used an impact gun/drill on the crank bolt before but i had the system all primed up with oil.
