  • tool to remove bearing caps...

It's the tool that is described in Haynes as a metal plate with bolts that screw into the caps after the cap bolts are removed, and then attaches to a slide hammer for removal.

I didn't find this tool at autozone or advance, and nobody knew what the hell I was talking about...

anyone have a pic of this tool, or know where I can find one... I was planning on just building one, but I'd rather save the hassle if I can find one cheap and available...

or is there another way without having the tool??

(this forum could use a tools section)

I know what tool you are talking about. it is the proper tool to use and I don't know where to get it but a mallet works like they described.

I probably would have ended up going straight to the rubber mallet, but I noticed in the Haynes that it described a special tool... oh well got them off now, though, thanks.

First, just loosen the bolts and rock the cap by hand until there is a small gap underneath one side. Stick the end of a small screw driver in that gap, and rock the cap over the top of it, then slowly work up to a large flat blade. Don't pry with the screwdriver, just rock the cap back and forth on top of it. Easy cheesy.

i believe, they wanted a cap remover not a bearing remover
