i finally got my new engine installed and done today and everything went great. i do have one problem tho. i have extremely high oil pressure. its reading about 75-80 under normal driving conditions and flucuates a little depending on the load on the engine. also every now and then when i turn on my car the low oil light is on even tho it is full. i just put in a new pressure sensor and just cant figure out whats going on with it. everything else is fine and there are no codes. any ideas? when i go back to work on tuesday im gonna throw on a manual pressure gauge to get a more accurate reading and see if its just sensors or if i really do have high pressure.

Re: high oil pressure and low oil light?
Have you inspected your oil level sensor and circuit?

Re: high oil pressure and low oil light?
Maybe you damaged some wiring when you removed/installed the engine. Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Re: high oil pressure and low oil light?
im suspecting that the oil level sensor is bad so im just gonna swap that out when i change my oil back to synthetic this weekend. i have a brand new oil pressure sensor in there and im wondering if thats defective and giving a false reading. unfortunately we dont have an oil pressure gauge at the shop like i had thought we did. one of my teachers at UTI said it might be the oil pressure bypass valve seized up. any thoughts on that? the high oil pressure is what im most concerned about. and ive inspected all the wires, nothing seems to have been affected'99 Camaro Y87 M5 T-tops

Re: high oil pressure and low oil light?
Well...hopefully it's only an indicating problem, and your teacher is right about the bypass valve being a possibility.
Even if the bypass valve was stuck in a position, or if it was somehow not opening all the way, then the high oil pressure would not cause a lot of problems. The bypass valve will not cause a restriction in the oil flow because it's not designed to restrict flow to increase pressure, but rather to bypass excessive pressure back to the pump inlet.
But if there is a restriction in a main oil gallery leading from the pump the oil flow from the pump could overwelm the flow capacity of the bypass valve and whenever the flow gets restricted the pump pressure increases. This senerio is very serious because you think you have great oil pressure (and you do in the oil passage up to where the restriction is) but after the restriction you have reduced pressure and flow, thus starving the engine components of oil and the possibility of engine damage.
