unless your running a OIL PSI KIT 20 psi is fine at idle and should gor to 50-65 at WOT on stock car
Actually the manual states: "it should be 20 - 120 psi" (not saying you're wrong!)
Mine had never been below 60 psi on my stock sensor
then I rebuilt it and its 30psi all the time
then I broke the sensor
replaced with Duralast sensor from Autozone
I am about to see if its still 30psi

I'm sure the motor was fine but what about the bearings ;)
I'm not used to having anything below 60!
My manual says the ls1 can go to 7psi and it is "normal" ha!!

Viper: Was there ever a time when your engine produced 60+ psi?
When an engine goes from 60 psi to 30 psi something is going on. That pressure may be ok for the engine to function normally, but I couldn't accept such a change especially on my engine that has gone 100+ K miles at 60 + psi. When (if) it happens I will definitely search it out.

I think what it is the oil pressure starts to drop with age of the car. The bearings on the rods and crank create the pressure, that much I do know. Well, over time, with the friction forces that are put on the crank, rods, and the bearings inbetween all of them, there can be a MINISCULE loss of metal. I think it is with that loss of metal over a period of time, it affects the pressure, because of the loss in metal. I can probably plasi-gauge the bearings that are currently in my engine now, and they might be a touch off with the clearances, but not enough to cause harm.
You all have to figure, the engine has 133k on the odometer, and is almost 11 years old. Things aren't going to be perfect inside of there, but might not be bad enough where it would warrant replacing rod and main bearings.

im having a similar problem. my car has extremely high oil pressure with the low oil light. i bought a oil pressure gauge because the shop i work at didnt happen to have one. hooked it up and the dial gauge showed good oil pressure even tho my dash said 120. the sending unit is messed up. it does what you said about moving with teh initertia of the car. its messed up just try another sending unit. like slow6 said it was only $21 at autozone. i replaced my sending unit and the oil level sensor and it took car of both preoblem. for how cheap a oil pressure sender is i would just go buy one and try it out. the gauge should not jump around with movement of the car when everything is normal

What is a PSI kit?? Did the factory install this "kit" in any of the cars?
My car is so stock that it is painful and I know nobody installed that "PSI kit" (unless GM did in the factory).
Like I said my oil pressure is 65-70 PSI at all times, regardless of RPM.
I agree with you mogobs in that if over the life of your engine if you observe a steady gradual decline in oil pressure, that this would be indictive of bearing wear (probably normal wear), and would be acceptable to me. But a sudden drop from a normal of 60+ psi down to 30 psi indicates something has suddenly happened and warrants investigation.
