Replacing heads and HG what else should I replace?
Replacing heads and HG what else should I replace?
I'm in a process of replacing the head gasket right now and I gotta say, what a PITA!!! After 2 days of working on it from 12PM to 6:00 PM, I'm finally at the lower intake manifold with my turbo sitting sideways out of the engine bay because it doesn't want to come off the exhaust pipe.
So, I was wondering, what else should I replace while I'm at it so I wont have to go into the motor again for a while? My motor has 85,000 miles.

only LIM, man you still got aways, LIM, Rockers, Rods, Head bolts
First off I hope you have ARP head studs, if not stop and get them. I would replace the lifters and pushrods, presonally.
I've been having trouble getting the bolts on back of the motor since I can't get my breaker bar back there.
ARP head studs? Whats wrong with the Torque to yield head bolts from autozone? I know that ARPT head studs are reusable but I want to do this in one try. I dont even want to think about redoing this again.
Re: Replacing heads and HG what else should I replace?
i totally agree
the only thing to consider is: will the ARP studs allow you to put the heads on when the engine is in the car?????
I would've bought the ARP studs, but I was worried about this
2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

You can, but here is the trick.
You have to put the head gaskets down.
Next put the heads on, there are two indents off the block which will hold the heads in place.
THEN put the studs in once the heads are already on the block, follow by fastening them all down.
Thats what I did.

Excellent way to install studs!
I'll have to remember that when my time comes.
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Ok, so you do the stud trick thing. Then what torque did you use? The TTY bolts use degress of rotation or turn and those ARP studs are not a yeild type fastening system.
