Just curious, but will this damage anything in the long run? Or is it not that big of a deal to worry about, unless it gets worse?

it will increase lifter rocker arm and valve wear slightly(what happens when you push a cardboard box it moves what happens when you punch it, it indents) same thing is going on when the lifter slams the pushrod into the rocker arm and the rocker arm into the valve when its out of adjustment

Alright, thanks for that small bit of information. Great analogy usage, it made it crystal clear of what is happening. If only everything could be put into an analogy of cardboard boxes, there wouldn't be a thing I couldn't understand.

Problem fixed. what i did was drain the oil while the engine was at normal temp, put new oil filter on, pour 1 gallon of gunk motorflush in the engine and run for 10 minutes(directions say 5 but i went 10 anyways), drain motorflush, replace drain plug and fill with maxlife oil. runs beautifully now. no the oil change was not over due it was actually almost 1000 miles from being due

I have had the same problem as you had for quite a while now-and it doesn't go away when my car is heated up. It happened before my engine got replaced, and it is still doing that very same thing. My mechanic doesn't seem to worried about it and thinks it will go away soon. Should i be worried?

It won't go away unless you do something about it. You should be worried about it because you are putting slightly more wear on your engine by letting this continue to occur. When you put another engine in your car, was this a new engine? I think you should flush your engine and see if that helps any. It fixed the OP's problem and it's worth a shot to at least try.

I was talking to this guy. He says he has the problem with his new engine and had the problem with his old one as well. He asked if he should be worried.

I disagree with that gunk remover as being a fix. You may have patched something wrong temporarily, but that stuff isnt going to fix engine problems that have already begun. That noise will come back again and it will need to be addressed.
