  • which cam?

i've got a 99 Camaro with the Y87 package, mods are whisper lid with k&n, msd blaster packs, alum driveshaft, pro 5.0 shifter i have 2 questions.

i have a gift certificate to jegs and am looking at getting the CompCams 76-801-9: 200/206 .496/.480 112

should i get an exhaust first to make better use of the cam and look at the ZZP or abbott cam, or go ahead and get the cam and a tune?

I think you should buy my cam! Its a stattama Stage 3 turbo cam! it has about 3K miles on it! i also have the springs, retainers, and pushrods from comp cams to go along with it...all you would need is lifters probably..you necessarily dont need the pushrods but the springs and retainers yes

would that cam work on stock heads?

viper04af: looking at the numbers and price i think the GT2 or abbott cam may be the way to go. my engine isnt modded enough to use to GT3 just yet.

how much tuning would be involved after a cam install say teh GT2. would a mail order from PCMforless be sufficient or would i need to tune it with like hp tuners or something?

that cam would work on stock heads, you could go with a mail order tune but they are never going to able to dial in the cam as well as you would be able to thru your own tuning.

He doesn't have a turbo. Nor did he mention getting one.
Don't try and sell him a cam that would be totally retarded in his car.
Don't try and sell your cam in here period.
Go to the for sale section for that.

Thats your one and only warning.

I ran the GT2 cam for a couple of months on the stock tune. It works, but
using hptuners will help ALOT.... I tried the mail order tune thing and it was
a waste of money in my opinion.

I eventually bought hptuners and my car is running much better than it was
with the mail order. If I were you I would either buy hptuners or find someone
                near you that has it.

Also, if you get the cam, get headers/hi-flo cat asap.

yea i'm planning on getting the CIA headers hi-flo, and the hooker 3"cat back is hptuners pretty user friendly for first time tuners?

Its not real hard. There are some tutorials that you can read that'll help you
get started. There are some knowlegable people on this board and the other
v6 board that are more than willing to help you.
