Engine Mods

I have a 99 V6 camaro with 27,000 miles on it. I would like to boost the power and had a few questions. I am a high school teacher, so I do not have a huge amount of money.
Questions
1. I was looking at the short block engine from "intense" it cost about 4 grand. Is that worth it, or would it be cheaper to buy the parts and have it done at a shop?

2. I was also looking at the "Intense" stage 2 heads. Is 2 grand a good deal, or could I have a shop port and polish mine and get the same effect for less money.

I also really want a super, or turbo charger. From what I read the supercharger is much less work, but would you get alot more power from a turbo? What is a good supercharger; I would like one that makes alot of noise.

3. Can I run a supercharger without internal engine mods? Would the HP gains be worth the money? Would it cause harm to my engine?

i thought you said you dont have much money? :) super chargers give instant power as soon as you hit the gas turbos typically are capabile of greater presure but you'll have turbo lag(takes a secound or to to develop power) depending on the pressure's you want to run depends on wether or not your internals will handle it and yes it could shorten your engine life a little bit just because your making more power so everything has a little more stress on it. preaty much any engine can handle 6-8psi stock above that i dont know about the 3800 hope it helps :banana:

the intense race block is MAJR over kill for the kinda project you are describing.

Turbos ftw, yes you will make more power, but you will have to upgrade your fuel system. (aka new fuel injectors or a fuel management unit)

Well for better advice, how much do you have to spend? Or are you looking to spend? What kind of knowledge do you have on cars?

I do not have alot of money; I plan to do work over time; buying parts here and there. I was hoping to buy a second 3800II to build up while driving mine. Mine only has 27,000 original miles on it, so it will be around for a while.
For now I am just adding some mods to my motor; I have the whisper lid, and am working on the CAI and headers/dynomax. I was also thinking about the TB velosity stack, MSD coils. How much power could I expect from a supercharger on the stock motor.

I was also planing to lower the car soon, and a few other sus. mods.
Does the V^ and Z28 have the same rear end housing? To upgrade mine, do I just get the gears, or should I get a whole new housing?

As for my car knowledge; I used to build old cars in high school; I built a 55 Chevy from ground up, but this is the first computer controlled car, or V6 I have ever worked on. Also, I am a bit rusty I havent been working on cars since I started the road to teaching. I am surrounded by mechanics though, I work with the school auto shop alot.

nice engine bay and welcome. I think a SC option is a much quicker way to get some permenent power to the wheels. Turbos will also work but will require more. If you do not have a large budget then ouch. You have to many items on the plate. You will want to get a camero 3.42 rear end at least to get the power to the ground. Actually they are just much better. You can keep stock and throw in a n\a cam and get some good increases. Thats pretty budget minded.
There is spray. There is alot you can do. How much upfront you have to work with to help us out here? FYI I think if hitting the trac is in your future then working up a l36 yourself would be a great idea. If you do much of this work (all) yourself you will be able to buy alot more. Headers are a must, so you could start with those.

In your search to see how well you can spend your money and get hp/torq. gains that really show for every penny of it I would suggest checking out Summit Racing's Online Store as they have ways of filtering what things they will show you and one of those categories is money. It will list things in the price range that you define for whatever vehicle you choose.
