  • Opinions: Details of my proposed Custom build, looking for high 12s NA

It may seem a bit on the steep side, but I am thinking of going NA and looking for 12s or at least very low 13s. What I plan on doing is a stroker kit (Possibly the ZZP, but looking into more options, comeracing.com may be a stretch), a very high lift cam, some ported and polished heads, diamond pistons, bored .20 over or maybe .30, p&p upper and lower intakes, all neccesary bolts and studs, correct rods for the stroker kit, tuning gears injectors etc...

Only things I am unsure of are rocker sizes to go with the GT3 cam, exact injector size (I'm guessing 30# or so) and spring pressure to run 6500-7000RPM. I'm also a bit on the fence about actually stroking the motor.

My current best ET is 14.9@94 on a 2.1 60' on my winter tires/steelies. (205/70R15). I've since done better on my 255s but I am unsure how accurate those GTECH PRO SS's are. I've gotten consistant 14.4@95 with a 1.9 60' time. All I have done currently is an aluminum flywheel, stage 3 clutch and a custom catback with a racing cat with other odds and ends such as deleted EGR (It rusted apart), deleted MAF screen, cone filter in place of the airbox and removed spare tire/jack.

So I just want some opinions on what else to do. I also do have a 2.75" I-pipe off a Z28 to replace my 2.5" pipe and some pacesetter coated headers going on the new motor. I don't know if I am really going to need 3" exhaust, even if so the 2.75" should suffice until I get it.

Anyway, Another idea I have is an L67 or L32 bottom end mated to a nice big cam, my ported and polished heads, ported upper and lower intakes and everything else, forced induction of course. Procharger maybe? Turbo seems cool too, but seems a bit harder to pull off and definitely pricey.

Sorry, but I am quite sure that GTECH isn't that accurate. I doubt you actually did 14.4 with the mods you said. GTECH is mainly used as a tuning tool, instead of actually getting times.

I've got the Y87 package so the LSD is already there but I do plan on rebuilding it eventually, with 4.10s mated to a g-force t5. I agree, 14.4 is steep, that thing isn't exactly accurate.

The 14.9 I ran was in the highest of humidity (It rained after my three runs of 15.2@92 bogging on the launch, 14.9@94 and 14.9@93 slightly warmer) so maybe on my 255s and in less humidity I might be able to do a 14.7 or so. I'm guessing the car had something done to it before I bought it at 80,000 miles because it's definitely faster than a few of my friends' mustang GTs from the SN95 generation and a couple stock-ish fox bodies I know. Factory freak?

I thought you were keeping it NA, why are you talking about forced induction?

when he says na he means whatever it takes to get to a 12 second car :)

The FI is just another idea I was throwing around... Still on the fence about what to do but price will be the deciding factor more or less. A stroker kit seems to go for $1,450 plus the price of all the supporting mods. H/C Supercharged L32 might run quite a bit more money, but may prove to make more power. Of course the eaton M90 is out of the question so a procharger or the likes would be used in place.

I like the N/A idea because I'm somewhat interested in keeping the engine bay looking as close to stock as possible, for maximum sleeper effect. Of course cold air intake and headers would be visible, but still, it's a cool thought. Not too sure if its doable, but reading up on the stroker kit there is an N/A FWD Grand Prix doing 12.6? If that's true, I should be able to do 12s all day. I still have homework to do before I make my final decision.

Do heads/cam/intake and forget the stroker.
With the right setup you'll go 12's n/a without a stroker and then you can add nitrous on top to REALLY go fast and still be able to run n/a anytime you want. That's why I've stuck with nitrous rather than install the blower that's in my garage right now.

                Nitrous > All :)

we now have a US supplier for the COME racing stroker kit so it is no longer a stretch trying to get it shipped to the USA.

If i'm keeping my car n/a would it be better to get this stroker kit then zzps? when I going to be running zzps gt3 cam. I know zzps crank is a shaved stocker. All in all the come racing kit is stronger and better but will it run just as good with the gt3 as zzps? sorry for taking over the thread

It's all good. Yeah, I am definitely going with COME racing's stroker kit over ZZP's shaved snapper (No pun intended lol). 3800stroked.com has a slightly higher price but that includes the clearanced block and bearings too I believe. I might go with the GT3 cam if I can't come up with better numbers on my own.

I would feel more comfortable running the N/A COME kit since it isn't a reground stock crank. But then I would stick with the COME cam or something they recommend for their setup since it is a custom setup and all. Not sure how it would like the gt3 cam and whatnot.

gotchocmilk39--Do you have the GT3 cam already and that is why you want it so much?

no I dont have the gt3 cam but I wanted to stroke my Camaro in a little more than a year or so and the gt3 cam was made for zzps stroker kit.

the block is not part of that price, they just show you pictures of the clearance work that needs to be done to your block.

With a 5 speed and the right head/cam and car setup you can run 12's with the stock bottom end. My 13.30 was run in 4500' DA with a stock bottom end. At a sea level track I guarantee it would have run 12's. I had 3.73's, BFG DR's, a little suspension, the easy weight reduction, our Stage 3 heads, our NA cam, ported intakes, and custom long tubes. The long tubes will be a big investment but its worth it.
