Hi I am looking to replace an engine in a 1997 firebird (overheated and damaged lower end.. is another post here from a few days back "cylinder head reomval 3.8 " about it if you want to see the details)

I have found a 96 with 64K or a 98 with 66K (both 3.8's are for $350 were online with store in Miami) ... looking for any advise on this to see which would be more similar to the 1997 (i.e. less crazy electronics I will have to screw with) and is that price range reasonable for a replacement 3.8 motor (upto intake)

    thanks for your time

    Tim

both engines are the same as your 97. just use your 97 pcm and wiring harness.

You're in for one hell of a time. I had to change my timing sensor, fuel injectors, fuel rail, PCV, and temperature sensor putting a 2001 mtor into a 1999 camaro.

yeah TAcreations sounds right, the email I used to talk to them was 'parts@tacreationsusa.com'
Found it online so can't say much about the place, but they have an address in Hilaeah so I am going to check it out in person and see if they have anything listed in the better business bureau etc.,.. they claim 30 day warannty
