dude, the solenoid(inside)is popping out like crazy mad fast but its not catching and Turning gears inside it sounds like. But dont be so fast to condemn it.
Try reinstalling it and looking at the gears (on the outside, in plain view/sight) which are supposed to popout and make contact with the flywheel.
Make sure you installed the flywheel correctly and it is available for the gears to make contact and CRANK!!
Oreillys has lifetime warranty on their cheapest ($120 I think, probably Ultima)
You can take the starter to any auto parts store and they will be able to check it for you!
It was confusing for me to get my starter on right the first time... there are 3 terminals.
