  • I need advice before I purschase some cam's

I have a 2000 firebrid 3.8 and I want to upgrade my cam's on my car. The car is all stock engine. I was doing some research on some web. All I need to know what kind of cams should I get from upgradeing from a stock car to a preformace car? This was I looking at on what to get so help me decided.

    CompCams Hydraulic Roller Camshaft

    1996-Present 3.8L V6

    Duration (Intake/Exhaust): 210°/220° @ .050"

    Valve Lift (w/1.66 Rocker): .512"/.512"

    Lobe Sep. Angle: 115°

    or

CompCams Hydraulic Roller Camshaft - CUSTOM GRIND

    1996-Present 3.8L V6

    Duration (Intake/Exhaust): 210°/220° @ .050"

    Valve Lift (w/1.66 Rocker): .533"/.544"

    Lobe Sep. Angle: 113°

What to get? Need some help!!

We only have one cam! You should work on some other mods before you get a cam. Intake, exhaust, gears, etc.

I know. I should do that. I'm thinking of doing my exahust done. Buying a borla set for my car.

yea...not sure about the cam...but lots of bolt-ons you should do before you move into internals imo...headers, cat, catback, intake, al. driveshaft, gears, suspension...yea...just my opinion

I know a guy with the first set of specs you gave (210/220 .512/.512 115) and that cam was pretty much plug-and-play...went mid 14's with no tuning, and took a few more tenths off just playing around with HPTuners. Also, the cam responds well to nitrous, as well as being pretty stout for NA action. All i can say for the second grind (210/220 .533/.544 113) is going to push the powerband a bit further down, making it mid-range rather than up top like the first grind.

You might want to check the heads/cam sticky and message some of those respondants

I am not really sure if you know enough about cars and mods to be putting a cam in. Just a thought.

thinking the same thing when I read cams and such. A bit scary. I think it is time for some more research and reading through the stickies and such to get a better grasp of what is going on
