No you're not ready. Get headers and a lsd before the cam.
Your log manifolds will choke the crap out of a cam. My tublar manifolds
were bad enough. You'll prob get more knock retard too because heat
will build up due to the exhaust gases not being able to escape fast enough.

Intake Lift .320" (.512" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
Exhaust Lift .317" (.507" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)

The Competition cams VS cam was designed for use with totally stock heads. Stock springs, keepers, retainers, lifters and pushrods are fine. Springs, retainers, and pushrods are recommended for shift points over 6200rpm.

Bottom line is this, can you run a cam now? yes
would other mods benefit the cam more? yes
do you need to upgrade your valve train? not unless you plan on shifting over 6200 rpms
will you generate knock? on that mild of a cam, NA, very doubtful
the choice is up to you, but if you go cam OR supporting mods you can't go wrong.
Well I will tell you this. With the GT2 cam and stock tubular manifolds (better
than logs) untuned, I had lots of kr when I went WOT. Tuning got rid of most
of it ,but headers helped get it the rest of the way gone.

little red ones) then get back to me with the results.

Putting that cam on his car without full exhaust and with stock gears and open differential is doing it wrong...so yes, he can definatley go wrong with his selection.
Yes you can put it on now, but I wouldnt because you will be dissapointed in the gains you get without allowing your car to breath first.

LOL. Thanks guys. This is exactly what I wanted from you guys. I want a cam, but I was wondering if you guys thought I'd be fine getting it now and then getting the rest later, or if I should start with something else, and everyone came on here telling me what they think. No real bashing or anything, just stated opinions, that's why I love this board :D . I'll still see what my friend says about making me a set of headers. I want LSD, yet I don't. I like the ability to control where the car goes when it breaks free, where as with an LSD it just follows the grain of the road (or so I've been told/read on here), yet I want the added traction of the LSD so I don't break free when cornering or launching. I think right now I'll just look into the rockers and headers, and then maybe a LSD.

Unless your way of controlling a sliding car is flooring it, there's no difference b/t having an open-D or LSD...LSD's still let the wheels move at different speeds, it's only when power is applied that both the wheels get going. With that said, LSDs will help traction when launching, but not when cornering...but then again, if you're punching the throttle while turning, no amount of hardware's gonna compensate for your driving habits
I don't punch the throttle while turning, but I like to try and maintain a consistent throttle. But when you turn, the inertia attempts to keep your car going forward, so when you turn, the car leans abit and puts more weight onto 1 wheel, so.......

A good tune would've gotten rid of the kr and given you good AFRs across the board. My point is, the headers shouldn't be needed to lean out the AFR. If you did mail order, then that's definitely not the way to get rid of all your kr.

Every car is different and I was just telling him my experience.
Who said anything about headers leaning out the afr? I said stock log
manifolds wouldnt let the exhaust gases escape fast enough causing
increased heat. When you raise combustion temps, you're more likely
to start getting some some knock.
I dropped my timing down to 20* at WOT and my injectors were at 100%+
duty cycle and I still had a consistant 3*kr at 4900rpm. After headers it only
happened occasionally with 25*. Then after I got bigger injectors I have
zero kr and run a consistant 28*.
Like I said, this is my experience and every car is different.
