  • 3.4 V6 to 350 V8 swap - Speedo too?

I'm not sure if this is the right section of the Forum to post this question in, but here goes.

In a 3.4 to 350 swap (1994 Camaro - T5 5-speed), can the 3.4 instruments be kept or will it take the instruments from a V8 car to get the tach (and speedo?) to read correctly?

    Thanks in advance.

Just wondering.. Are you putting in an 1st generation engine? Regular smallblock chevy? The rpm showing would be wrong on a 6 cylinder tach, the tach would show more rpm than the engine is actually going....

I'm not actually the one doing the swap. It's being done in Rochester, NY. The donor car is a '93 V8 Camaro and the recipient is a '94 V6 Camaro. Both cars are parked side by side, so everything's available.

What's my involvement? I bought the 65k miles 3.4 V6 & T5 and hopefully the wiring harnesses and computer so that I can do my own swap. Not into an F Body, even though I'm living about 30 minutes from the ex-location of the Camaro/Firebird plant (St-Eustache). I'm actually an MG nut and plan to swap the 3.4 into an MGA. I don't suppose anyone has a pair of Fiero V6 exhaust manifolds lying aroud? No the sexiest looking and probably most efficient, but anything else will require major hacking of the frame. A long term project, since I first have to build the 1200 sq ft garage to do the work in!

Yes, Mike88, another Quebecker. A bit North of you but maybe we'll cross paths at the Orange Julep on Decarie!

sounds good. Although I must say it has been years since I've stopped by there. Do they still have car shows on Wednesday evenings?

I have 3.4 exhaust manifolds if you need them.
