  • LS1 rocker arms/valves

I happened upon the Intimidator Monte Carlo. it uses LS1 rocker arms. is this a straight forward swap? is it just a matter of some pushrod angularity?

ZZP uses vortec 5.3l intake valves. i was told that ls valves are a different length than 3800 valves. how does this affect spring compressed height? what's needed to make this work?

i know the ls7 injectors have 4 holes (toyota injectors have 12 holes). our delco injectors have just 1. smaller holes delivering the same volume means smaller fuel droplets. this is good for several hp. does anyone know how many holes the ls1/2/4/6 injectors have?

Not sure about the spray pattern on the injectors but the other thing that needs to be considered is the year car you have and if they are compatible with the harness. If you have 2000+ you've got multec 2's. Depending on the volume you need you can get some injectors from a late model 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 truck that are rated at around 43#'s, they will snap right in and you'll just need a shorter fuel rail. If you go with non multec 2's if that's what you need then you'll just need the adapters and splice or solder them to your harness. Someone else will need to chime in about the rockers and valves.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

      Re: LS1 rocker arms/valves

thanks for the feedback. how many outlet holes do truck injectors have?

i have a 1999 buick regal gs. fiveomotorsport.com told me my injectors are delco III injectors, with 4 holes. so i don't need to change my injectors. i just wonder whether they are well flow matched from the factory.

anyone care to respond about using ls1 rocker arms or valves on the 3800??

        Re: LS1 rocker arms/valves

Is there any particular reason you want to use ls1 stuff??

I guess the valves would work if they are the same size as your stock
ones. I dont really the how that would help you any.

I also don't see any reason for the ls1 rockers. whats wrong with the
        stock ones??

Maybe you should state where you're trying to go with this so I/we can
get a better idea in order to help you...

          Re: LS1 rocker arms/valves

my question really doesn't need any background info. it's just simply: can we use ls1 rockers and valves with the 3800? ls1 rockers have a higher ratio, and are lighter. ls6 intake valves are hollow, lighter than 3800 intake valves, and fairly cheap. aside from SI valves, most sources for 3800 valves are around $30/valve.

i want to increase power and economy. my plan (now that i know my injectors are 4 hole) is to install an slp adjustable fuel pressure regulator, walbro pump, fuel pressure gage, and jack the pressure up to ~80 psi. this will boost area/volume of gas by 26% - giving more complete/faster burn. i will get a dhp powrtuner to adjust the fuel, and spark.

i will also install a 3.4-3.5" pulley (i've considered a turbo), ngk tr6 sparkplugs, cai, exhaust, and maybe headers. for those wondering about the smaller pulley, gm has a recirculation valve that dumps boost at part throttle - so highway mileage is unaffected, and boost won't build in city driving if you're easy on the accelerator pedal.

i've bought valves, and have a cylinder head to port. i have access to some neat high tech equipment. i'll post my findings when i can.

            Re: LS1 rocker arms/valves

viper04af has lead me to an msd afpr (pn#2222). i got it for $112.86cdn with tax from performance improvements.

next is a walbro 340 pump and hotwire kit.

i will jack fuel pressure up to 5 barg (72.5 psig). i expect 6-12% better emissions and fuel economy. right now i average 8.5 L/100 km on the highway - aiming for 7.5-8.0? i hope the pcm will adjust...i will get a tuner before i get the turbo (i'd like to tune once).

the injectors will also flow closer to 42.5 lb/hr - good for 500 bhp. this will support the gt3255e or gt6131re turbo (with alky).

regarding the valves and rocker arms: i have 3800 valves - i just have to measure them to see the dif. rocker arms are different geometry than stock rockers. thrasher has a nice write up.
