  • If i were to do an engine swap

what would be the most reasonable engine. i have the 3.8 v6 in a 97 firebird right now, and it has over 120,000 miles so i would rather have a new engine to put parts on instead. i think i want a v8, but still not decided on it. I dont want to spend a crapload of money, but still want a nice engine.

i dont know, just throw out some engines and ill check them out, but like i said, reasonable.

pretty much any engine swap you do is gonna be expensive, theres alot of work involved. i know this isnt the answer you want, but you would probably be better off selling your car and buying an LT1 or LS1 fbody, itll be much cheaper

if you really want to do this though, id go with a 383 stroker or a LT1

I'd go with a 350 or a 383 Stroker Tuned Port. They are pretty cheap, and nice engines. Or an LS1 if you wanna spend alot of money. But, I would have to agree with "00 Silver 6," it would probly be cheaper to sell yours and buy a V8 Camaro......

well, the car i have now is in really good condition, just has a lot of miles. i know a bunch of people who own shops and could probably get a good deal. i should be getting around $2400 from insurance money, plus i have some saved up, and over the summer i plan to work almost full time. i guess what im asking is what would fit the easiest and wouldnt need a bunch of fabricating done.

        thanks

2,400 will not get u a motor swap...maybe if u can find some deals on the parts and did it urself but its not gonna b cheap...i was gonna swap my 383 into my v6 but then started lookin at the long run and i decided against it...im just gonna find a LT1 car and put it in that...

i know 2400 wont get me one, but im saying im getting that soon, on top of what i have, and on top of what ill be getting. right now i just want to know what would be the best idea to put in it.

r u doin this urself? u do know its gonna b easier to get a LT car than to do a swap...if ur gonna swap i say dont put a stock LT1 in there...to much work for the HP gain ur gonna get...go out and do things once...figure out what ur goals r for the car and what ur price limit is gonna b

theres no way i could do that myself, i know nothing about swapping an engine, lol. and id rather keep this car because its in such good condition, its pretty much mint.

Re: If i were to do an engine swap

if its mint then sell it and get a LT car....its gonna cost way to much to have everything swapped by some1 else...ur gonna put enough money into it by payin some1 to do it to go out and buy a LS1 car...im not tryin to convince u out of this if this is the route that u want...but in IMO if u r just gonna swap a stock LT1 into ur car its not worth it

Re: If i were to do an engine swap

I was also thinking about swapping out my 3.4L in my 95 firebird for an LT1 as well. I would agree with SilverRS96 in some cases, but theres other things you have to figure as well.

It does make sense to sell your car and buy one with a v8, but you have to go through the hassle of paying for the new license and registration fees and your insurance rates will skyrocket. Plus if its a 96 or newer, you have to take it in for emissions, (at least in my state).

But if you do want to do an engine swap, then go for it. I'd drop in an LT1. An LS1 would be better, but you have to change out a lot more components to make it work. It may be a lot at first, but you'll save money on insurance in the long run since they still think its a v6, as indicated on the VIN number!

did you do that yourself, or have a shop do it. if a shop did it, how much did it cost you for that.
