    Re: Cam install

im surprised someone hasnt asked you what mods you have, mitch, im sure someone is going to tell you to get your headers first and a few other supporting mods... rockers, rods, springs, retainers ect.

most ppl on here would tell you if your going to spend the money to do it, make it worth it and get all that **** at the same time, all of the 3800 cams are roughly about the same prices anyway, big, mild, or small...

      Re: Cam install

Dont believe that mechanic man cuz he just wants all the money he can squeeze out of you. I cna tell you liek a few others that for a cam or heads install you will not have to pull or drop the motro out of the car at alll. All you will have to do to make the install easier is drain and pull out your radiator which gives you room to get in the engine bay and work on the engine. You also wont have to change out your lifters unless you want to because the stock ones will work fine with a mild cam. However you will want to change your springs to a bigger rate spring, change your retainers, pushrods, and timing chain. I think that covers it far as parts. You will also need new oil and radiator fluid. I hope this helps you man. Dont let that mechanic **** you around liek that.

By the way what all mods do you have done to your car as it is now because you will need supporting mods. Such as full exhaust and intake. You need those to get the full benefit of the cam.

        Re: Cam install

Just to give you an idea, I paid $500 for the cam install. It was only the cam, springs, and retainers that were replaced because I used a GT spec Comp cam. My advice is to shop around and it helps if it is someone who has worked on our cams before.

            Re: Cam install

Well for the cam and all the valvetrain parts you need figure about 700-800 in parts at most. Then if you can find the right installer then 500 should be about right for it. I only paid 500 for the install but it was by a GM tech so I know it was done right. Get the headers first man then go for the cam install.
