Anyone know how much it would be to have an engine rebuilt, except being rebuilt w/o heads, valvetrain, cam, and intake?

Would any shops even do this?

This is the exact question I needed to ask. I was figuring around a grand, but I hope I'm wrong.

      Re: Rebuild

If your thinking of rebuilding to stock and given the costs of engine rebuilding it will be cheaper sourcing a low milage engine from a wrecker and using it.

Ask around. Call a local wrecking yard and get a price. Also call a rebuilder and get a price from him. Won't take long and you will have your answer, and it will be accurate cause it is your local.

        Re: Rebuild

What I was mainly wondering was if it would be possible for a shop or wherever to just do a 'partial' rebuild...leaving out some of the parts that would be upgraded (basically to reduce the unecessary waste of spending money on stock parts that will just be replaced anyways.)

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, but what I wanted to have done is have them completely clean out the block and put new seals and stuff in. Then, I need them to put on the 3400 intakes, heads, etc. on. I'm still debating on whether to have them install the engine or just do the rebuild, then I could put the engine back in. Oh, and also put in my new cam.

              Re: Rebuild

Someday (If I still have it) I have plans for my engine. Not going to build it up w/ 120K on it tho, and dont feel like paying $2K plus for a crate engine w/ parts that I don't need.

I would have head work, new valvetrain, cam...

So everything else would need to be rebuilt or whatnot, would a shop do that?

im sure a shop will build u a shortblock and whatever else u want rebuilt...u might could find a engine shop and just buy a new block and use your block for the core charge thats what im doing with my 87 gta 350...

                  Re: Rebuild

I'm expecting the costs of the 'goodies' to be $5,000...

So I'll dig around and see what the most affordable option is...the Camaro situation is looking good tho :)
