    Re: v6 upgrade?

i wasint saying that stock right beside each other the 3.8 is better. just saying whats the point of swapping a smaller engine in (even if its newer) when you could use the swap money to build up the 3.8.

what did you want to spend? the 3800 heads really need a lot of work. however, the 3800 responds really well to a turbo. an m90 supercharger still needs a lot of work to get over 350 hp. a small t3/t4 turbo will get you near 400 hp with just bolt ons. you don't even need to mess with cams until 500+ hp.

Its not as an expensive of a swap as you think.

200hp/225 tq back in 1995 for a V6 was pretty damn good for a major production engine...

                and it's a great engine all-round

It's true. If you do find another engine, are you going to be doing the swap yourself, or paying someone to do it? Because if you are paying someone to do it, then you might as well forget about doing a swap and just concentrate on building up your 3.8.

In that case, yeah there's a good one. A brand new 3.8 v6 :) It's a great swap and you won't be dissatisfied with the results of the new engine.

I'm going to have the same problem when it comes time to mod (once I have cash).

Either rebuild the 3.8 go go LT1/6spd swap. Either way get ready to spend 3-5K

                            Re: v6 upgrade?

You call this a useful post, you make this post, quite possibly the most retarded one on the forum, wanting to put a different v6 in a v6 car, then you want to put a FWD v6, LOL, I know damn well you will NEVER put another v6 in your car, so this post is irrelevant.

                                Re: v6 upgrade?

220hp v6, in other words bolt on Y87 5speed v6 versus slowest vert auto LT1, I think the v6 has a good chance. I raced and beat my dad's 94 Z28 pretty decently on more than one occasion.

It is a big waste of $$$ to put a different V6 into our cars. With all the custom work required, it would be more cost effective to just build a nice strong 3800 or (gasp) v8 swap.

I think the 3800 is a better designed engine than the LT1, and I would take a built 3800 over an lt1 any way. screw opti spark and forget having to drop the engine to do spark plugs on adamned lt1. 3800+heads/cam > LT1 swap.

and c'mon already with the arguing. he had an idea, get off his back about it if you're not going to help him with ideas for putting a G6 swap or whatever into his car, as much of a waste it may seem to anyone else. I wouldn't advocate another V6 in our car unless it was 1. same bolt pattern and mated to our trans and motor mounts etc, and was either DOHC or VVT.

                                OHC > OHV

Imagine a V6 Camaro with aluminum block, DOHC VVT aluminum heads and some nice cams to go with it? ;)
