  • L98 into 4th Gen V6... Can it be done easy?

I have a L98 carb'd motor sitting in my '89 Iroc, the motor is just about 350hp, I have a T-5 in the Iroc now behind it, and the motor has been slowly beating on my transmission when I get happy and shift hard and hot.. *old T-5 was NOT rated for the power of the stock 245hp L98 let alone this beast, I eat LT-1 cars for lunch with it*

Now I have heard from many people the the T5 sitting in the 4th gens is a lot stronger than the old one from the third gens. Now the curious part, I might be buying another V6 4th gen again, '94 with a T5.. Now is time to finish that 3.4L turbo project I wanted to do before with my '95. But I'm starting to think when I pull the motor out and do all that work if I could drop my L98 into it for a bit and have some fun. Now I know exhaust work would have to be done and obviously the simple wiring parts *but being its carb'd its pretty simple*.

My worries lied more in the transmission hookup, clutch hookup, motor mounts *should be just 4th gen v8 mounts*.. Obviously new springs to take the weight, and some fuel line work.

Hm... Maybe if this works then the Turbo 3.4L could go in the Iroc... Now that would be funny...

      I don't have a clue, but I don't imagine the stock k-member
would work or the 'v8 motor mounts'. It'll prob involve alot
      of custom fab.

Anything can be done if you have the time and money...

id say it would be easier than an LS1 swap for sure... if you have money to invest, then go for it

          Aww I should update this...
          K-Member is the same..

What I would need is the bell housing, springs, shocks, clutch, motor mounts.
I guess its been done by a guy on Z28.com :)

Do they test for emissions where you are because that swap is most likely not legal.

yes a small block will work, but the distributor in the back will give you problems. Since you will not be able to get to it.

hence why the lt1/ls1 and v6, don't have traditional distributor in 4th gens.

So....install a crank fired ignition system. No shortage of 'em to choose from for the SB chev.

go for it, but it does add to the price.
