ok...so in a few days im going to go out to a junkyard and pull a LS1 my goal is to rebuild it myself, learn a little as i go, and eventually swap it into my 02 camaro. how hard is a rebuild? is their anything else i should grab out of the car while im their besides a tranny? once rebuilt, how long do you think it would take for a shop to do the swap and work out all the kinks, and what would they charge?
Thanks.
just get a parts car, that's what i'm going to do. You also need shocks/springs, steering may also be an issue. I'd reccomend getting one with a fresh 10 bolt (unless you get lucky and find one that has had the 9in. or 12 bolt). Either way, you are probably gonna ruin ur stock rear when u put it in, even though they are the same. It's always better to have extra parts. Another positive is that you could probably make a decent amount of money back on parts. You think u buy a wrecked t/a for 3-4k and you sell the seats for 750, the dash and other interior pieces for 500, then some other parts and you have more than half your money back. Besides, you'll need to upgrade the fuel system and it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade brakes either from an ls1. just my .02
Car expresses who you are. If you have a ****ty car, you must be a ****ty person;)

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/995979

i cant buy a parts car, its out of the question all together, i live in a gated neiboorhood with strict *** policys, im lucky i can get the engine, so my plan is to use the junkyard as my parts source...may cost a bit more in the long run but not nearly as much mess...but i do understand what your saying

Just take it to a storage place. That way, you can rent a spot and go voer there and work on it practically all day. I think at a lot of places the first month rent is like $1 or something like that. If all else fails, you can always find soemone else that has a large parking lot that lives in an apartment complex and park it there.

The Ls1 is lighter than the V6????? Or is that b/c it's made out of Al? I do'nt really know much about the Ls1, but it seems since it has two more cylinders (and nearly 2 more liters of displacement) that it would be heavier. Just my logical thinking in an illogical world
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
