The only thing is you HAVE TO, HAVE TO, HAVE TO, use the 3400 pistons. When you do so, you end up with a 9.6:1 comp ratio. Now, when I have my heads P&P I'm gonna have them shaved a bit to boost up that 9.6 to hopefully closer to 10:1. I'm also looking into other ways to lighten up the rotating assembly and drive train. The stock 4th gen T-5 transfers power better than the stock 4l60E IMO, but not quite good enough. So I'm going to install a alumnumi-DS and I have a 3.42 rear for it as well. I should be seeing track time by October hopefully she'll be running by the end of August.
ok haven't updated this in forever, the pushrods ended up stumping me for a while. I have a set on order and the parts I need coming in as well. sense my last post I haven't managed to get crap done. I bought an 86 T/A which slowed me down a bit with the 3.4 progress but I do have some updates.
I'm not going to do the P&P on theres heads/intake, its not practical within my budget to do so at this time. I do have the long block assembled and ready for to be assembled and installed, I have not however started on modifying the necessary parts
ok.. quick q.. you say you found forged AL pistons for this swap? Where from? I'm doin the same thing but I've had no luck obtaining forged pistons..

Hypereutectic is a cast piston. Not forged. Hypereutectic refers to the casting process use when making the piston. It is stronger than a stock type cast piston, but no where near as strong as a forged piston.
Those are flat top pistons and are not going to work with 3400 heads, unless you don't mind 15:1 compression. 27cc dished pistons from the 3400 give you 9.6:1 SCR, the stock 3.4 8cc pistons give you about 13:1.
hey forced im getting back into it... i figured ide rather be broke and happy then financially secure and not, lol so what youre saying is the only option is to use the factory 3400 pistons correct? the 3100 will not work due to smaller bore? or is there an aftermarket piston that will give a CR of around 9.0:1 that has our specs... hows my block treating ya :)

hey night rider where did you get the pushrods from and did they give you the proper geometry if so where did you get em, part # etc... i am going to be building a 3.4 with the top end off of a 3100 malibu since the heads and intake are interchangable with the 3400 i believe but i am going to be fabbing a cutsom turbo kit for it and be tuning with MS as well, keep us updated on all if this...

Lyle, if you don't need to rebuild the shortblock (or don't want to buy the 3400 pistons) a 3500 top end will work with 11.5:1 - which is OK on pump gas and a tune with AL heads.
forced- i have 2 engines one out of my camaro which has 200k on it and one out of the firebird which has about 80K i think but blown head gaskets so i am going to use the block out of the hight mileage since its held up to all the heat cycles without a problem and then just mis match parts like rods and cranks to get the best ones and then build the short block so i am going to have it apart anyways, and i am going to boost it max of 20 PSI so would the stock 3400 pistons hold up to that or do i need some aftermarkets and if so what will work? i am thinking of going .20 over depending on the cylinders so that wold throw the 3400's out the window anyways, 11.5:1 is way to high on boost, for NA or nitrous that would be good am i am looking for around 9 to 1 so what are your thoughts?

those are what I installed and they ARE dished...its a summit error...you can call and ask
I'm curious about the pushrods too. I've seen different people saying that the stock 3.4 rods will work, then other people saying only the 3400 ones will work. Does anyone know for sure which ones to use?
