  • double roller timing chain

    So i've heard the term "double roller timing chain" thrown around plenty of times on this board. i'd really like to know what it is and why it seems to be a poplular mod. who can help me out?

    Well it's really not a mod by itself. Only need the double roller chain if you are changing your valve springs to a higher seat pressure (130#+ or the ls6 90#) along with an aftermarket cam

      alrighty... what exactly is it tho? i know what a timing chain is (duh) but whats w/ the double roller part?

        Its just a chain that is 'thicker' meaning it looks like two chains in one.
        See this pic

        The reason you add the double roller chain is to eliminate the chain tensioner on the stock single chain. The dampener is just plastic and will wear out quicker with the higher springs pressure.

            i have 1.9 roller rockers with ls6 springs and ls1 retainers and im not useing a double roller though did replace my timing chain with a Rollmaster timing chain cuse my stock one was old and did not want to risk anything happen with my set up
            2000 camaro rs:whisperlid, 2.5 magnaflow exhaust, catco high flow cat, fast toys cai, 3.73, 160 power stat, msd 8.5 wires ngk iridium spark plugs, hpp3, zzp w/p and alt. under drive pullies, 1.9 Rockers/LS6 Springs with ls1 retainers
