      Re: What's a hybrid?

      Thanks!

Worked on my engine finally for a little bit today instead of everyone else's, lol. Got another 3500 comming in tomorrow, and will be dissasembling/cleaning all day.

      Got the cam bearings out...

      And honed the cylinders...

Now I got to order the rings (hopefully tonight after the kids are in bed), and maybe this week the crank, cam bearings and oil pump will go in.

Is this a 3.4 with a 3500 top end swap? I'm not sure what I'm looking at here.

                Yes.

The valve springs are getting traded for a set from an LS6, and 1.7 roller tip rockers in place of the stock 3500 1.6 roller fulcrum rockers. I will be using a 75mm Nothstar TB, custom forward facing headers and turbocharging it.

I don't update here as much, but the rockers are staying 1.6 roller fulcrums due to LIM clearance problems.

Look at the first pic on post #1. It's a 1990 firebird (3rd gen) and the 3500 top end fits just fine under the hood. In fact it is a bit lower than the 3.1 top end that came stock. The MPFI intake manifolds are a lot taller than the 3.4 manis.

Ooo, didn't realize it was a 3rd gen. I was wandering why it had a 3.1

so whats the advantage to doing a hybird rather than droping in a 3500?

                            Ease.

The 3500 block has different motor mount on the pass side (rear in the FWD vehicle), starter is on the opposite side, where the Gen1 60* has the oil filter (3x00 filter location will hit the motor mount), and the oil pan is just a big square and will hit the k-member.

When I can get the time/money to install a tubular k-member, there will be a an entire Gen3 60* motor in my car. I'm thinking at least a 3500 twin turbo, unless I can find a good deal on a 3.6DOHC or a 3900.

Is there a big power difference between useing the 3400 top end and the 3500 top end?
