  • Porting intake manifold

    What all is involved with porting/polishing your intake? Has anyone on here done this themselves and if so what was the outcome? Could this simply be done using a dremmel tool? Or should I spend the 200 bucks and send the upper and lower off to Abbott? Damn thats alot of questions......?

    well if it were me i would just send it off.. it involves quite a bit actually abbott is going to get places you can't get with a dremel just my 2 cents and without heads the intake won't give you much gain at all.

      I have the heads pulled off right now to be reworked. I figured while I had it all apart I would do some intake work as well. Im just starting to run low on cash flow...thats why I was hoping the intake wouldnt be shop specific.

        Port matching is the biggest gain to be had IMO.
        It is easy to do, and more challenging to do well.
        Buy a set of gaskets, put them on the manifold and trace the opening with a sharpie.
        Do the same on the lower intake, then smoothly grind down the colored areas.
        Leave the heads to professionals.

          i dont know what kind of experience you have in porting...but if your like me and have none, i would just feel better sending them off to a shop to be done correctly.

            Yeah I wouldnt touch the heads. I think I will give it a shot with the sharpie and dremmel. Thanks!
            And I see where you are coming from 99BlackW68, but the only way to gain experience is to just do it...and being the realist I am, chances are im going to screw it up. But if I do destroy the intakes, they are relatively inexpensive to get from a wrecker yard. I'll post some pics before I put them on to see what you guys think.
