OK, few questions. Got to doing some more research, and what do you guys think of upping the rockers to 1.7, or even 1.8 while I have it apart? Also, what valvesprings will work with our motors? Can you get too big of a valvespring (too high of a pressure)? Also, what about fuel? I have a feeling injectors are going to be added to my list of mods.

You would have to check the clearance of your heads, but you can probably run a 1.7 rocker with that cam.

        I would put 130# springs.

OK, I think I'm going with 130# springs. The GT2 makes .507 lift w/1.6 rockers. 1.7 rockers will put me at .539 lift, and 1.8 rockers will put me at .570 lift. I was told stock heads allow upto .525 lift; however, ZZP has modified retainers that allow .030 more lift, and modified seals that allow .020 more lift. Used in combination will allow an extra .050 lift, raising the stock head capabilites to .575 lift. 1.8 rockers just barely cut it at .570 :D

What about valves? Just cleaning up the stock one should suffice, right?

ZZP told me a while back that even using them together they wouldn't advise anything over .550 lift I think.

I'd have to look through my old correspondence with them.

O, OK. I'm just wondering how much of a gain I'd eveng et from the 1.7 and if it's even worth it. It's gonna cost me $400 for them, so I'd like to see a decent gain from them.

OK, don't think I'm going to get the rockers. Don't think it's worth the price unless I can get 1.8's, so o well.

                  Re: Future Plans

Ayye I'm going nuts over here. I got bored and started searching and have found mixed opinions on most of these. My dad thinks my stock lifters and pushrods will be just fine and that I have roller rockers stock. I didn't think our cars came with roller rockers from the factory, but I may be wrong, someone mind chiming in? What about fuel? Do you guys think the stock fuel system will be able to handle these mods, or are fuel injectors also a must for me? Do you guys think I should get new lifters and pushrods (getting mixed opinions)? If so, what size pushrods would be best?

Anyone? Mainly worried about the fuel system. Will it suffice for my mods, or are injectors needed? Also recommendations on pushrods and lifters would be nice too; stay with my stock ones, get some OEM replacements, or what?

                      Re: Future Plans

Are you getting your heads done too, still? If you are why are you woried about clearance? With stock heads and stock rockers I thinnk your fuel system will be fine. How many rpm's are you planning on turning?

I'd say if you want to run any more lift than what the GT2 and 1.6 rockers provide you, get your heads done. I wouldn't risk going bigger with the retainers and valve seals. Then with the 130lb. springs you'll want a double row timing set and want to upgrade pushrods. Then just as well get lifters, I had two friends with stock 3.8's have lifters shatter. For pushrod length get ahold of zzperformance/intense/abbott, because head gasket thickness, head plaining, cam profile, and I think the spring install height are factors.

I'd say stock heads go with your 112lb. springs and stock rockers, p&p heads go 1.8's, and 130lb. springs.

With stock block, Abbott Stage 3 heads, GT3 cam, .052 MLS, I THINK i had 7.05 comp pushrods, 26 lb. injectors, and pcmforless tune and the rest of the fuel system stock it ran good.

Heads will be done, but by myself and a buddy. I was worried about clearance because I hadn't planned on doing anything to the heads besides porting and polishing them; that won't increase the clearance. Plan on setting the limiter at 6800 and shifting around 6500 or so. I'm going with the 130lb springs, not the 112, and I'm going to get with Lance and see what he says. I'll be running the .045 MLS gasket, so a difference of almost .017". If every .006" gives you a .1 change in compression, I should get around .3 more. This is why I wonder about the push rods' I'm afraid stock may be too long. I'll check my lifters when we take it apart. I know the Advanced Auto Parts near me can get them over nighted, so if I need them I can get them from there. Double roller is on the list. I think I'm just going to stick with stock rollers. It would be a nice upgrade, but total I'm looking at around $1500 for everything, and rockers are taking up $400 of that. They're about 1/3 of my total cost :(

I really wish I did. With tracks closing and no info on dynos around here I dont have much for you. Check out my fquick: http://www.fquick.com/garages/Chevro...aro/1998/6559/

I marked off 1320ft on a unused highway and ran 101mph w/ open headers and 98mph with cat and 80 series muffler. I know that'd I would be able to get a cuople more mph's if my tranny would shift from 2-3 (slipping). And this is with stock verter, gears. No time cause stop watch broke. Cant upload cellphone videos either.

Do you know if your heads are good? No cracks or warped, even a little? No need for clearance now if your not getting your heads done by a machinest. With the thinner head gaskets and cam different length rods should be in order plus 130lb. springs and 6800 rpm's you'll want some stronger pushrods also. Now with the rockers the pivot (or i think the word is fulcrum) point has roller bearings but the tip is flat and rubs back and forth on the valve stem.Tthe aftermarket rollers have roller tips for less resistance plus lighter, stronger and better valvetrain stability for higher rpm use.

Found some roller rockers for cheap, but they're from a Z-28. Besides the fact that I'll have extras, will they work just fine?
