Ok so as I near winter time, Im getting prepared to swap in some 1.9 roller rockers since I have no intention of doing a cam...just out of curiosity, you know how you get a lope with a cam...do you get that when you install rocker arms as well?

Rockers are more of a sleeper mod than a cam...you'll get decent power for the price but you wont really hear a difference and the install is pretty easy.

Beautiful, that works to...now about install how straight forward is this? I unbolt the valve cover...unbolt the old arms...I take it bolts hold togther the rods and valve springs to the arms? then just throw the new ones on...put on a new valve cover gasket, pop the cover on and drive? To me it looks like the only thing in the way of my valve covers are the coil packs...

Slightly more indepth than you describe. There is an engine lift bracket in the way of the passenger side valve cover at the rear. I can't remember offhand if it is 13mm or 15mm, but use a gear wrench! Trying to use a socket will only infuriate you!

ok so new question...I'm leaning towards putting in 1.8 roller rockers in now and ZZP has told me I dont have to do the springs...which Im thinking is gunna make my life super super easy...when I get the valve covers off what am I looking at doing...there is what, a bolt for each rocker holding it on? take the bolt out and the rocker comes off? if Im not doing the springs do I still need to have the cylinders compressed or can I skip that?

they say you dont need new springs for the 1.8 rockers, but if it were me i would get new springs anyway. but no you dont need to compress the cylinder when just doing rockers.
Depending on what rockers you get. there is 1 bolt holding each rocker arm on. (12 total) and then depending on if your rocker arms are shaft mounted or pedastal mounted, you unbolt the ped and replace it with the new one or keep it off.
what brand and type are you thinking of getting?

                Re: rocker arms part 2

the aluminum roller rocker ones at ZZP...the tech article I was reading actually says that you would get better performance by not replacing the springs

                http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...les1.php?id=53

so I asked about it just to confirm and they sent me an email saying I dont need to do the springs...so I think thats what Im leaning towards at the moment...how do I tell without taking off the valve cover if I have pedestal or shaft mount?my cars a 96... and what tools will I need to do this other then a torque wrench? I got some time off coming up in a the next few weeks so I might just do this project in the garage now rather then spring time...especially since I dont have to do springs now lol

you can just do so much with new springs. if you ever have your car tuned. with 105 springs you can run a 7k rev limiter if you really wanted.
every 3.8 fobdy comes with shaft mounted rockers. and im pretty sure that that those aluminum zzp rockers are ped mounted

so if they are shaft mounted and we have pedestal is that going to be a problem?....I figure if the rockers are the easy part...I can always go back and do springs later if I am unsatisfied with my results...I believe I should still be able to run my limiter to around 6200-6300 without an issue...Its just according to that article they say that the new springs are too stiff...you actually see better gains if you with the stockers...they do mention though that if you upgrade the springs you can run a higher limiter...I believe that might be a better choice though if you are running a lot more power in your car then what I am...I think I pretty much have the same mods as you...catback, headers, wp underdrive pulley, pcmforless, al driveshaft, msd wires and coils....but we will test and see...I remeber in your last thread you said you got 200 rwhp...Im hoping to hit a dyno when this is all said and done so we'll compare lol...I appreciate the help man

the pedestal unbolts very easy, so no matter what kind you get it wont matter.
Just that i have been told the shaft mounted ones are better because they eliminate unnecessary movement
and do you have a manual or an auto?

You will get lope if you do only your exhaust rockers ;) - that makes it like a dual pattern cam.

12 rockers. 6 for intake valves. 6 for exhaust valves. He's sying if you just replace the exhaust it'll sound like a bigger cam. Only joking.

ZZP aluminum rockers look like they come with new pushrods and new pedastals so when you unbolt the rockers the old pedastal will come with it, pull your old pushrods, intall new ones then bolt in new rockers making sure your pushrods are in they're seat in the rockers. The rockers should also have direction for you to follow.
