dammit. I went on slponline to pick up that set of valve springs, but it looks like i missed it. Does anyone know of another place to get them cheap or another sale going on somewhere? :(
i found them for $53 plus shipping, http://www.lingenfelter.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?
but shipping is 15 bucks as opposed to the $5 for that $40 clearance sale.. so that's ~$25 more total.. anyone know of a better deal?
After some thought, and more shopping, I'm seeing that if I go with 1.9 roller rockers, I need to get new springs, retainers, the rockers and possibly pushrods, and i'm also reading that 105# springs are recommended over 90#, which are more expensive yet, while if I just go with 1.8 roller rockers, I can save money by not needing to get any other things, and on my budget, that is more appealing. Is there really that much to be gained between 1.8 and 1.9?
if your going to spend the money why not just get what you really want.
Even with the 1.8 "I" personaly would still reccomend getting springs. The 105# springs are soposed to be very very good springs. And with better springs, you can set your rev limiter higher. My buddy has hist set at 7k and has no problem. I am going to be setting mine to 6700 in a little bit here.
And i dont believe you will need new pushrods. With my 1.9 promags i dont need them
not 100% sure but i think it has something to do with the seat height of the different springs
you would only need new retainers if you got new springs
Well I guess it all depends on how quickly I can get the money for this to come together. I would love to go all out, but in the end, i never push my car anyway, but it would still be nice to get well into the 14s
I can't say I'm trying to save money because if I was, I would just finish rebuilding the heads and put them back in in stock form. The plan is to get the 105# springs and 1.9 roller rockers.
I've talked now to a few very knowledgeable engine rebuilders, and they are telling me my retainers will be perfectly fine for the application. In some cars, they said, they would replace the retainers even without the higher tension springs, but in this case, the stock retainers should do just fine..the stock ones are quite adequate.
I'll probably be finishing up this project around christmas time..
Well it appears as if a stock set of LS1 retainers should do me just fine then, and i'm sure those can be had for much less than ~$50 that the aftermarket ones cost.
