I think I may attempt this when I tear down my engine. Searching the forums, people have said you can't swap the UIM and TB, since it's electric, and when asked about swapping the UIM and keeping their stock TB, there was no answer. I think it'll be a direct swap. Some research brought up that the same TB gasket is used for both 93-97 TB's and 98-02 TB's, so they should have the same bolt pattern. My only worry is the throttle cable. About to head out to work, but Wednesday I should be able to go out and do some fiddling and see if I can come up with anything.

Good luck, I hope it works. If it does I think I would do the same thing. The only problem I see is the Throttle cable not being long enough. Post your results.

Ditto, I believe you are right about the gaskets being the same. And really other than that cable length is the only issue that comes to mind.

I fly by wire so no idea how hard the routing for the throttle cable on our cars is but I imagine it wouldn't be too terrible to replace the cable with a longer universal one cut to size. Or if it's just a matter of an inch or two needed and there is no chance of something getting in the way to cause binding, then I'm sure you can think of a way to safely lenghthen your own.

Best of luck, if you do do it, take some pics and do a writeup. Would be interesting to read and I'm sure give motivation to others.

Bout to go quickly examine my IM and TB and see if I can find any apparent flaws, so far everything has just been done in my head and from research. Who else would be interested in a write up if I do it? Before, I was looking into converting to a lid as well (possible for the pre-98's, although it's difficult and not worth it), and am wondering if maybe the straight TB with a lid would run better then a straight TB with my CAI.

pay attention to your idle air control valve, I've got an angled '98 Throttle Body on a 2001 manifold but the IAC location was positioned differently. I was able to mount an IAC in the TB but that just about ruined my throttle cable location.

NOT a bolt-on mod. Already tried it. Decided it wasn't worth it.

You would have to modify the 99+ UIM to accept sensors that are seperate on the 95-98, but integrated into the TB on the 99+.

What sensors are we talking about? I don't think it will be a problem. Yes it will take some cutting to get perfect, but I don't think it will be a big pain.
