Is there any reason you can/can't use a FWD version intake manifold. Does it flow less or something. I don't own a 3800. I own a 2bbl 3.8L in a '84 Regal. Kinda looking into a swap, but keeping with a 3.8L theme.

It's backward. The TB will be sticking into the firewall.
FWD nor RWD 3800 Series II stuff WILL NOT WORK.
The eary 3.8 is NOT the same as the 3800. http://engine.firebirdv6.com/3800history.html

you aren't running a 3800II compatable motor. So no it will not work. Look at getting stuff off a GN motor. Its gonna be more expensive, but it might actually work1987 Buick Grand National drivetrain in my 1993 Pontiac Firebird. Re: Using the FWD 3800 intake manifold
Sorry, to clarify i had the idea of swapping out the old 2barrel 3.8L and swapping in a new Series II 3800 from a 01-02 Camaro maybe even the 5spd. The car is a daily driver, so LSx swap or SBC swaps would cost to much in the general use pocketbook even if the swaps are easier. I was just looking for ideas of making the 3800 more snappy. Saw their were lots of mods for the FWD manifold from ZZP. But obviously if the manifold is backwards that wont help. Does anyone know if the RWD manifold can flow as much as the FWD manifold. Does porting help. I also read somewhere the 3900 heads from G6/Malibu's can be used. Or is this again only a FWD thing.

Some upgrades can be used on both the FWD and RWD, just need to learn which.
Also, remember that the 99+ engines are electronic throttle, whereas the 95-98 are cable. Which would be easier to install?Robert - owner www.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com
