not to argue funk but it still is critical due to him having hydraulic lifters and what. it is a precaution that as a beginner he should learn to do anytime the lifters come out of thier bores

i didn't think i had to take the lifters out? :( can't i just pour some oil on them while they're in the car?
it wont hurt anything. its just man made oil if so i would use mobile 1 only but it is pricy. i use castrol syntec blend . i have had better luck with the blends instead of full synthetics but if you want full i suggest mobile 1

so u don't think i will have any leak issues by switching to synthetic?
synthetic engine oil wont hurt your gaskets. it does have stronger detergents in it than conventional because the base oil will hold up to it. synthetic GL5 gear oil will eat away blue rtv sealant; i think this is why so many people have this misconception.

so are u suggesting i switch over? I'd like to switch to royal purple, but i'm not sure if replacing those gaskets is going to be good enough to stop any leaks.
on another note, i'm wondering do u guys think i should remove the lifters and soak them before i install everything? could i just pour some oil over them? Should i just buy some new lifters? they're pretty cheap.
let me know what u think, i need to know what to do here before i start installing everything.
i switched to mobil 1 when i got my car at 75K miles. now i have 166K and no problems. i would recommend switching over. if it were me i wouldnt pull the lifters out unless i was doing a cam. if your valve covers are leaking right now; there is a good chance new gaskets will fix it.

but don't i have to lube up the lifters with oil? so i have to take them out right? or can i just pour oil on them?
things have been going slow, only because the weather has been horrible for the past couple weeks, but i'm basically at the point now where when we get some good weather of about 2 days in a row i can put this thing back together.
got the valve covers nice and clean, ended up drilling throught the broken bolt on the EGR pedestal, and now we're just gonna put a bolt through that hole and tighten it down with a nut, i just need it not to leak, so hopefully that'll do the trick. Still got to go out and buy a few random things... serp belt, butt splices, coolant, ect. but then we're gonna get this thing done!
I'll let ya'll know when we start puttin this thing back together, i may have some Questions along the way.
well, my friend came over today and we started putting it all back together.
we installed the new pushrods and rocker arms, lubing them up very liberally.
we had a bit of trouble adjusting the rockers till we figured out at what firing position we were at but we got the hang of it. ( its a PITA getting at the rockers in the rear of the engine)
finally, we rtv'd the valley and put the LIM back in place. I have to pick up a smaller torque wrench before we can continue, but next up is the valve covers and plenum, after that i should be able to connect all the little odds and ends up myself.
just thought yall would like to know the progress now that we're really starting to get this thing finished up, boy we've come a long way.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
